This is a really good point that I had not run into before: these "creators" have no further insight into their alleged creation than the average audience member and that is why it cannot be called art (besides all the other obvious reasons).

It’s not “losing money” any more than air traffic controllers or public highways or street lights or fire departments are “losing money.” It is a government service. It’s not SUPPOSED to make money. It’s supposed to reliably deliver to anywhere in the US, even the unprofitable places.

As writers who put influential images on the screen, we need to get better at this - and I include myself. It's easy to use smoking to suggest a character is edgy, independent or a rule-breaker. But there are better ways.
