Anyway. They spent the last decade telling us STEM degrees were the future and the Humanities were worthless then they spent hundreds of billions of dollars to build a glitchy Humanities robot.

“You don’t understand, loser. I’m doing a TikTok trend” is not a thing I would ever sincerely say out loud. Not for all the gummy bears in the world.

You’ve got roughly a week to figure out how to cryo-sleep through 2026. Or cure bird flu. Probably not enough time to do both.

“Today, ProPublica is launching Rx Inspector, a first-of-its-kind database that provides answers to what the FDA won’t tell us: where our generics are coming from and the track records of the factories that made them. The information is harder to find than you may think.”

There is no such thing as an “AI detector” for language models. There are a lot of con artists cashing in on intentional obscurity of the technology.

The @princetonupress.bsky.social needs to pull the book and issue a correction while investigating what other errors, omissions, and disinformation they allowed to go to print.
A small (personal) example of this book’s intellectual dishonesty:

My father-in-law is reading In Covid’s Wake, and excitedly told me he found a passage where I’m quoted. The quote in question is me saying the FBI worked to censor speech on social media.

Huh? When did I say that?!

Countdown to FBI kicking in your door to rip out your roomba, as sacrificial pyres are built in cul-de-sacs across America to destroy the roving robots, while America The Beautiful echoes through the suburbs.
My quick and dirty thoughts on Trump's short-sighted, stupid, and self-defeating ban on foreign made drones.

Banning foreign drones won't make us safer. Instead, it'll encourage people to build their own drones - which are way harder to track and to control.
The USA Bans Foreign-Made Drones, in Trump's Grand Idiot Tradition
It's December 23rd, and the USA has officially banned the import of all foreign made drones and "critical components." Here's a very quick and dirty run-down of my thoughts. Although if you'd like t...

Alright, fine. They can all have their private jets and armored BMWs but they gotta start driving a federally funded Uber.
Kash Patel made the FBI buy a custom fleet of armored BMW X5 for him to ride around in. trib.al/9pBbwTB

Patel’s FBI spokesperson claimed—without evidence—that this is actually saving the American taxpayer money. The standard version of the X5 costs about $70,000.

Pandemic times were weird because we went from like a year and a half in lockdown/wfh to moving overseas under quarantine and spending like a month in military barracks then basically another year under pandemic precautions but on another continent.
Getting covid on a US military base in greenland as an experience I'd rate 1/10. It was not great!

But being able to say afterwards that I got covid in greenland and quarantined in space force barracks .... 8/10

The thing about Bari Weiss is she’s always been bad at her job and her whole shtick was it’s illegal to criticize her being bad at that job so she invented a new job where she could be as bad at it as she wanted and that ultimately earned her the dream job of being the useful idiot to billionaires.

The Authors Guild did a survey in like 2023 and it seemed only to exacerbate their acceptance of model training and LLM use even when the numbers did not reveal widespread member interest. Mostly because the questions were so poorly designed they made some level of acceptance the baseline.
SFWA is doing a survey on LLM use in the industry. You don't need to be a member to submit. Writers/artists/humans need all the advocates we can get, and I hope we can encourage SFWA to take a strong stance. www.sfwa.org/sfwa-survey-...

Americans having to bootleg broadcast news about our government’s offshored concentration camp is a level of fascism that immediately precedes democratic societies dropping leaflets on us from weather balloons.
