Shabbat shalom. Sending a little extra light your way.

"In a heart there are windows and doors
You can let the light in
You can feel the wind blow
When there's nothing to lose
And nothing to gain
Grab a hold of that fistful of rain." - WZ

Just now: The plaintiffs who were arguing that Utah GOP's congressional map is illegal won in court.

The judge orders one of the two maps submitted by the plaintiffs ('map 1') be used.

The ruling, if it stands, guarantees that Democrats will pick up a congressional seat in Utah next year.

Dan knows more about how Congress works than anyone I know, so this is an interesting thread.
Some thoughts on the CR/minibus.

1 The Dems negotiating with Rs were not freelancing. They coordinated with Sen Schumer. A few were ready to give in on day one, others worked to maximize appropriations wins.

Those voting for the 'deal' are the ones furthest away from electoral consequences.

How confident are US importers in the holiday shopping season and beyond?

Let’s just say inbound container units are expected to be DOWN 14.4% this month — and 17.9% next month.

BREAKING: Judge Talwani will be issuing a second order — aside from the Rhode Island TRO — to "protect against the government's position" that the states suing over SNAP benefits are not "parties" to the R.I. litigation. It will be stayed to run concurrently w/ the R.I. order's current admin stay.

Thread from @chrisgeidner.bsky.social on the latest (complicated) ongoings in the challenges to the Trump administration's efforts to cut SNAP benefit payments this month —>
OK, where are we on the SNAP benefits cases?

Two things happened this morning:

* DOJ told SCOTUS they're still fighting to stop full November SNAP benefit payments, via their stay request at SCOTUS
* District court judge in Mass. stayed USDA's 11/8 memo ordering states to "undo" full payments

I voted NO on this funding bill. The last thing American families need right now is skyrocketing health care premiums as they struggle to keep up with rising costs — but that’s exactly what they’re facing because of Trump and Republicans.

A flexible spending account that replaces enhanced ACA premium tax credits would help people with their out-of-pocket health care costs. But, that help would be limited if they couldn't afford to buy insurance to begin with without the enhanced tax credits.

This was not a surprise to anyone who followed me and other actual reporters who know Supreme Court procedure.

The only places it succeeded were to generate donations for Liberty Counsel and to prompt clicks through ragebait headlines from your favorite resistance grifters.

Sorry, it's true.

extremely important 🧵
For those wondering why I posted a thread about this last night, this is why.

There's a LOT of people who seem to think that either a) the entire ACA is ending or b) ALL of the ACA tax credits are expiring. NEITHER IS THE CASE.
Do all ACA subsidies expire or only the enhanced subsidies passed post-COVID expire on 12/31/25? Asking for my adult kids, who both get insurance from ACA.

NEW: Dems easily flipped the sheriff's office in Pennsylvania's Bucks County, a big swing county in the Philly suburbs.

So? The incumbent GOP sheriff had contracted with ICE. His Dem challenger promised to end the contract.

Now he wants other swing-state Dems to look at his victory as a lesson:

Hey, a lot of people are talking about changing affiliation from Democratic to Independent.

Let me tell you why you shouldn’t do that in Colorado.

One of the main ways to get a primary challenge candidate on a ballot is to caucus for your party. You need to be registered as a Dem to caucus.
