100% — with everything getting royally fucked up, I see widespread political movement well to the left of what the Democratic Party would prefer.

As distasteful and dangerous as I find this form of reactionary energy, I don’t think it’s as organized or widespread as mainstream media makes it seem and I do think a sustained effort at political education can start peeling some of these folks away from the abyss.

When Democrats are in the White House, there is more cover for attacking visible poverty as an issue of individual choices that led people to where they are.
But when you hear people in your city (including the mayor) sounding a lot like Donald Trump while he’s in office, it hits differently.

The economy is collapsing, the oligarchs are stripping the last vestiges of a social safety net, and even more so than in 2008 many of us are a little bad luck away from houselessness.
Solving this problem is a shared struggle.

No one wants to see suffering but moving it around to other parts of town doesn’t solve the issue.
When the funding alternatives are sweeps and rental assistance, we should choose the latter because it actually prevents more people from becoming houseless.

I do think this is a point of radicalization because a lot of angry, angry normal people were ready to dig in and suffer a lot in order to make fascists suffer a little, and their resolution was sold out and made into a mockery

We’re tired of elites failing us. Stop fucking up and then demanding we get in line.

there's enough nuance, conflict, and hard choices here without throwing a bunch of false information into the mix.

IMO progressives and the left can find majorities on basically any issue at the city if the ground game is there.
If not, it’s a toss up.
