Is the Y-axis end-to-end energy costs? If so, e-bikes would be even lower, since charging with renewable energy is ≈3x-4x lower than that to feed people per km (e-motors are 90% efficient, biology: 25%). Also EVs clock in at 0.2 (just 33% higher than bicycles). ( @deeplyclassical.bsky.social )

The weak response from Can, EU and UN to Trump's flagrant crimes in Venezuela is striking.

It exposes that much of the world has been cowed.

Most notable exception: the Latin American left.

That is why the Trump Admin has gone to enormous lengths to defeat the left across the continent. 1/3

Have had mine for two years now and it's one of the best decisions I've ever made. Zero worries about finding parking, I know exactly how long it till take me to get the kids to school and on to work regardless of the traffic, and that's before the savings

This shooting left an innocent bystander in critical condition. He is in Seattle undergoing brain surgery for his injuries from the Alaska state troopers.

Don't call the police in Alaska for mental health crises. The cops will shoot up your place.

The state troopers shot two people, killing one, while responding to a mental health crisis.

Multiple troopers opened fire on a man brandishing a knife. They killed him while putting someone else in the hospital in serious condition.

worth reading, I suppose

“the only way to make our brilliant new technologies serve humanity is to democratise control over them”

The Left is losing because it no longer cares to talk about freedom.
To win, the Left must once again offer a project of liberation: pragmatic, understandable for all.

THREAD: Viral misinformation on US capture of Nicolas Maduro - 4 January

This video, shared by Alex Jones and others, falsely claims to show millions of Venezuelans in Caracas celebrating Maduro's capture.

In fact, it shows anti-Maduro protests in July 2024 over a highly disputed election.

This video, viewed millions of times on TikTok, Facebook and X, claims to show Venezuelans taking to the street to thank the US for detaining Maduro.

But the video is a combination of four AI-generated clips and was first posted on TikTok by a user who frequently shares AI videos. It's not real.

e-bikes displace oil

denver's 10k e-bikes procured w/ subsidies displaced 4,100,000 VMTs or about 160k gallons over a year (~3,800 barrels)

less money for despots, more money for local communities. better public health outcomes. reduced congestion. etc

>40,000,000 e-bikes sold globally in 2024
This is sort of what I mean: I know the intention here is good, but the call to action is incorrect. Or maybe "imprecise" is the better word.

Renewables are great, but they don't displace oil.
Allow me to connect some dots for you:

Too much of the world currently relies for its basic functions on resources which must be continuously extracted. You burn that oil one time and oops, now you need more.

Geopolitical horrors are, in fact, one of the reasons we need to move to renewables ASAP.

If you can't attend a protest, I would suggest speaking to your values in whatever ways you can, and attending to something *you can do*. Remember, many things are happening at once. They want to keep your head spinning.

Let purpose preempt despair.
