Academic working on defence policy/procurement and executive power in Westminster states. I'm aware of the typos.
For the weekday readers, I look at what it'll take to achieve the Carney government's defence industrial ambitions.

Interesting study from RAND arguing that AI increases jobs, rather than replacing them.

The reason? Most jobs are complex.

Microsoft, for example, says 'political scientists' will be easily replaced.

Buddy, I do like six different jobs.

Mark Carney’s budget is blind to the real causes of Canada’s problems
The prime minister's first budget emphasizes infrastructure and resource extraction but fails to leverage our most significant economic drivers.

Why doesn't the budget include major money for submarines?

Cause we wouldn't be taking delivery until the 2030s.

The defence spend is presented on a cash basis over five years.

For anyone who thinks this government actually cares about universities & colleges, consider the following statement from the budget.

"New international student arrivals have also declined by approximately 60 per cent compared to 2024. This is a start, but
we recognise there is more work to do."

Looks like DND/CAF/CSE will finally get proper cloud/digital backbone:

"$10.9 billion over five years for upgrades to Department of National Defence, CAF, and Communications Security Establishment digital infrastructure, including those needed for modern warfare"
