This is what happened in our neighborhood yesterday. ICE snatched a human being off of our streets, roughed them up badly, and then pepper sprayed legal observers as they documented it all. This is a daily occurrence happening all throughout Minnesota right now.

I've never been sad to be a paid subscriber; his work is phenomenal, absolutely top-notch, and he's a real light in the dark right now
OK, we have orders, opinions, and arguments in the morning — and that’s just at SCOTUS. It’s also, obviously, January 20 — one year since Trump was ushered back into office.

Um, the bus thread from @musicologyduck.bsky.social is unreal, and I am … glad … the bus … stopped?

When a handful of far-right voices complained about equality measures being pushed by the Biden admin re gadding treatment of trans people under sex discrimination laws in accord with precedent, we got years of nonstop reporting on how aggressive the Biden admin was in advancing trans rights.
What an unfuckingbelievably wild framing.

Danish troops are on the ground.

I discussed this developing crisis and much more last night at Law Dork: www.lawdork.com/p/on-year-tw...
Footage shows Danish troops arriving in Greenland as part of a new military deployment. Among the personnel who landed on the island is Major General Peter H. Boysen, Chief of the Danish Army Command. #Greenland

The latest in the West Texas A&M drag ban case. No parties are recommending that Friday's scheduled preliminary injunction en banc arguments at the Fifth Circuit go forward after Saturday's final judgment in the case from Judge Matt Kacsmaryk. —>
NEW: Texas proposes that the Fifth Circuit either could dismiss the PI en banc appeal or hold it and consolidate it with the merits appeal — a way to keep the appeal en banc. If the court does that, the state notes more briefing is needed.

tl;dr: I would not expect en banc arguments on Friday.

There are people here who (1) do work that I think is important and (2) who I need to mute because they are so intolerable.

(3) I acknowledge that there are people who undoubtedly think that about me, and that's why I just mute these folks for a while, and then try again, rather than blocking them.

100%. (And, I note later in my thread that I do expect that to happen in short order.)
To be fair, this sounds like Judge Cobb practically begging the plaintiffs to bring this back before her.
NEW: Finding that the 1/8 Noem policy requiring 7-day notice for congressional visits to immigration detention facilities is a "new agency action," Judge Cobb (Biden) denies a motion to enforce her order blocking an earlier policy. This is the wrong vehicle to challenge the new action, she finds.

Samuel Alito has sold his percent share in SIX in protest
So apparently Dylan Mulvaney got cast in a Broadway musical... which resulted in transphobes losing their minds and threatening to "Bud Light" the show... and now the show's Twitter page is locked down. Cool cool.

The group of people with the worst understanding of what theater is and its purpose and promise for the world deciding to attack Six of all shows is mind-meltingly stupid.

It's awful for Dylan and the show and theater, but, that said, this seems to be a "toxic X" issue as much as anything else.
