“Obama built the cages” is my favorite trump talking point because the right’s only objection is he did not build nearly enough of them, put way too few kids in them, and that they were somehow too clean and comfortable and that sporadic access to basic healthcare and lawyers happened sometimes

Today, after @propublica.org published this story, the camp was raided to confiscate letters from the children.

“At bottom, majority support for a path to legalization for longtime residents is an expression of support for a deeper notion: that they have become part of our communities and now have some sort of claim to staying.”
This is interesting. In other words, Minneapolis is producing an overall strengthening of the social contract, including towards the undocumented. That's a stark rebuttal to MAGA theory, which holds that the silent majority agrees that foreign invaders threaten national social cohesion

Key point from @swin24.bsky.social: Trump pollsters can't decide whether to tell him the truth or feed his fantasies of invulnerability:

A child dying of cancer spent her final days fighting to free her wrongfully detained father from ICE custody.

This comes just weeks after a mother from Maryland was denied the right to be at her son’s side as he died from cancer.

Not one dime for this cruelty.

Didn’t realize til now that The Conners went off the air. Is it worth picking back up? Circa 2022 my wife and I stopped watching because it felt like it went off a cliff quality wise; did things get better?

Prior to that, I thought it was one of the best shows on network tv. Some incredible moments

There is no drawdown. There is no retreat. ICE is just redistributing their assets to better avoid accountability.
The same day DHS announced the surge would end in Minnesota, ICE activity increased in small towns
The less densely populated areas outside the Twin Cities make it harder for protesters and observers to organize.

It seems highly likely that without a charismatic figure to take it to the next level, that whatever happens in the next couple elections, a reversion to the mean - a mean which has now been warped by mainstreamed fascism - happens quick. But if we are narrowly talking about the midterms, it seems…
Democratic fortunes in November don't rely on the "enthusiasm" of its voter base. The Dem voter base is not enthusiastic. The Dem voter base is full of rage. They're looking for someone to match that rage, to channel it. But even if they don't get that, they'll crawl over glass to kick MAGA out.
Hope that Democrats aren't relying on the enthusiasm of their base to win in November www.nytimes.com/interactive/...
