The Wager by David Grann is an incredible Age of Sail survival story, but Grann also draws out all these other interesting angles—imperialism, military law and duty in extremis, early use of book publishing as P.R.
Ok BlueSky: what are your favorite history books in terms of sheer page-turning, narrative propulsion? Thinking along the line of Killers of the Flower Moon, etc. Nonfiction chronicles that read like novels or movies.

Latest: An 8th Amendment lawsuit challenging extreme heat in a South Florida prison put sensors around the prison.

at one point, i watched a cook county sheriff’s officer (who appears to be in charge) point out a priest in the crowd.

he and a couple officers then went into the crowd , dragged him into the street, and arrested him.

situation is still tense as crowd jostles with police to get into the street.

This is good reporting and all that but here's the thing I learned the other day: Bill Pulte, the 50-year-mortgage dude and the guy who keeps pulling the mortgage docs of Trump's enemies is only 37 years old.
