Spoke to @sanders.senate.gov who said of the 8 Senate Dems who supported ending the shutdown: "What those eight people are saying is, ‘We’re not prepared to stand up and take on Trump and the Republican Party." Interview will be out in the AM on What A Day.

there have been a lot of wallets given up to the worst wallet inspectors on this front
Any Palestinian who thinks they have to "give it to Candace owens" is a useful idiot. Yes yes lets align with the far right at a time when the issue is essentially mainstreamed in normal circles. I wonder who benefits from this re-alignment

I was in sixth grade and it was the first movie I ever watched where I was "this is definitely not good" and I was at the age where I presumed a movie in a theater = good
Of course everyone is allowed to like what they like, but this widespread prequel rehabilitation blows my mind. I was 9 when the phantom menace came out, and didn’t like it then. Do you know how bad a space movie had to be for me to not like it at age 9?

Do you think Jar Jar Binks was made for children to sympathize with indigenous populations? If so, which ones?
"I have no idea what being a contributing writer for a fascist rag has to do with despising a character that was created for children to sympathize with indigenous populations"
I have no idea what being a contributing writer to the New York Times has to do with a movie featuring Jar Jar Binks but I will continue to stand on this hill: The Phantom Menace is Bad.

Like, BLATANTLY obvious.
Again, it is blatantly obvious Jar-Jar Binks talks and acts like a blackface minstrel show character. Lucas was pilloried for it at the time.
November 10, 2025 at 6:26 PM
Again, we are talking about a movie that prominently features Jar Jar Binks.
How shocking that a writer for The New York Times is so pissy about a trilogy of movies that deal with political corruption
November 10, 2025 at 6:03 PM
Again, we are discussing a movie that prominently features Jar Jar Binks.
Every movie attempts to commercialize to gain as large a portion of market share as possible. Why, precisely, is that weird? Should the war have been goofy and handwaved?

Be normal about a Star Wars movie: impossible
The inciting incident for conflict in The Phantom Menace being a trade war is inherently a flaw, according to a writer for the New York Times (a piece of unofficial regime propaganda for the current presidential administration).
November 10, 2025 at 5:47 PM
Yep.
This is not a surprise to anyone who was closely following this case. It *ought* to be, however, a moment to reflect upon the responsibility (or not) of media outlets that, deliberately or not, led folks to believe that a grant was a serious possibility (which it never was).

everything is "performative" because we're in a social media panopticon where everything becomes free content for our tech overlords so they can be rich and we can get a strangely unfulfilling but addictive form of attention

I keep bringing it up but Julia Ioffe’s fantastic feminist history of Russia discusses how men in Russia basically saw any decline in their station as a personal affront and reacted accordingly (by drinking and doing nothing else)

Everyone's true "welcome to the Big Ten" moment is not when they win a conference title, or beat Ohio State or Michigan. It's the first time they drown in a bathtub at Iowa when its like, 38 degrees outside.

Admiral Ackbar is so clearly terrified and yet he trusts Lando to let them stay close to the star destroyers which helps them win the battle
And I know its been memed to death decades before "meme" even entered common lexicon, but imagine being a flight leader and hearing the fleet Admiral yell IT'S A TRAP in sudden horrified realization and before you can even process the implications youre too busy dodging a thousand TIEs to think.
