My favorite response is “oh how are you gonna feel when it’s your president? We’ll see then.“

I wish every president got impeached and removed. I’d throw a fucking party every time it happened.
The popular idea is that removing a president to replace him with a non-criminal president from his party, and usually elected on his ticket, is a coup.

Do governors/mayors get replaced by number 2s all the time? Yes. There's poli sci work on this, the power of the presidency blinds people.

This is what I meant w my NYPost take. This is how they cover Dems they don't like: Just pound him for anything and wreck his image. Stuff like de Blasio's chronic lateness became nationally famous (repeated by Dems!) bc the Post made it famous.

But he didn't have shooters like Mamdani does.

Also, in 2027, a Dem Congress's electoral priority will be making the 2028 GOP ticket unelectable. The models: Rs pounding Clinton in 2013-2015 and finding her server, Rs probing Biden's family in 2019-2020, which clearly aged and weakened him.

They'll want to drive down Vance's numbers, not Trump.
I'm on sabbatical til mid-February, so not talking to Dems as much. But my recent sense is that they are punch-drunk from the first-term and Biden-era probes of Trump either being ineffective or backfiring. "Impeachment" isn't even a threat anymore.

Probes of Hegseth et al? Sure, but Trump is safe
Once you decide there's nothing bad enough the president can do to warrant impeachment you're kind of done. You're relegated to holding a bunch of hearings which is a PR battle for the subsequent election, but in the meantime you're stuck with a criminal president

Problem is with impeachment power in a partisan Congress. It's a gun with no bullets; the idea that the electorate empowered a sovereign for four years, and it is anti-democratic to remove him, is so powerful (and so dumb) that you can never really crack his party and get the votes for conviction.
All time most incompetent political party

I’ve seen no serious engagement from senior Dems about what, exactly, they plan to do in terms of reasserting congressional power, as in identifying the available tools and thinking seriously about ways to use them to dig us out of the current state of total constitutional collapse.

The Post was around 50% as deranged in its de Blasio coverage, but he didn’t come into office with the massive outside force that Mamdani is bringing. Gonna be a test of the paper’s influence; it beats him up every second but he’s got a posse saying “shut the fuck up.”

It is not just the corruption of Trump pardoning someone who was making him richer. It is also a two-tier justice system where the rich can buy freedom.
Binance paid the lobbyist $800K for the pardon, and were offering lobbyists success fees of up to $6 million.

If claims this nonspecific and broad were actionable under defamation law, Taibbi would be financially bankrupt in addition to intellectually bankrupt.
