The most on-brand and accessible "aggressive" or quick fix Mayor Wilson could do, is to unblock key bus route bottlenecks. Much of our bus lane network is effectively wasted because careless/selfish car drivers routinely queue up blocking bus lane turns every rush hour.

I’d also love to see her very aggressively fix some problems, but I’m not hopeful that the electorate would understand that that’s what she’s done. I don’t think it will help her get reelected.
One of the few things the Abundance people are straightforwardly right about is that progressives need to stand up for their values and demonstrate their worth.

Wilson should be *extremely* aggressive in making the city better. Win the next election on outcomes, not process.
The way for progressive mayors to win reelections is to go all in

You'll ignore this, but every time you tweet angrily about crap like that Nuzzi piece you're confirming NYT editors' intuitions/incentivizing more of it. The entire intellectual/journo model here is, "Does this person get people angry? Yes? OK they're provocative/get talked about. Write about her."

I am amazed at the pre-shutdown conventional wisdom that the anti-government temper tantrum party would somehow "win" the shutdown.

(in practice memories are short and once things are going again approval will improve a bit)

Libs are way better off with less partisan podcasters like Rogan/Theo Von/Andrew Schultz than with hacks like O'Reilly, Hanity, or the various talk radio guys.

Occasional exceptions here like Obama's outreach to Smerconish, but just much harder to get a word in edgewise.

I know this affects so many people in so many ways, but for my part, every Iranian I have worked on visas for was a doctor coming (or staying) here to treat patients.

We always look to prior crises to try to understand current risks and I think because we never did bad mortgage underwriting and household/bank leverage are fine people are struggling to understand the risks created by the price imbalance we have in the housing market.

Omigod they finally closed that weird gold bullion tax loophole. I had no idea.
Gold may lose its shine in Seattle next year. Here’s why
As gold prices soared, investors found a way to hedge against economic shocks and sellers cashed out. In Washington, that boom is likely to end next year.

True. And a good reason why society works better when:
1) Members of the legislature and their staffs are very well paid.
2) The legislature of more professionalized and has lots of staff
3) Society is full of powerful institutionalized groups that represent many interests beyond just corporations.
