The reason people want a public statement is that Democratic politicians often don't do anything until pressed by the grassroots. Which does make it a lot slower & harder to form & execute plans!

I have to say, I'm a little frustrated, there are vast numbers of horrifying videos of ICE circulating privately right now, but a lot of paranoia about sharing them publicly on social media. Sharing is fairly low-risk and THE ONLY WAY the full scope of what's happening here will be understood.
