Also the Christmas parade features the characters from the wizard of oz so it has to happen post August 1939.

So basically I think this has to be Christmas of 1940 based on the author’s age and other notable events (Red Ryder BB gun debuts in 1940 and I’m gonna guess the movie does NOT happen immediately post-Pearl Harbor)
Time for the annual debate: what decade exactly is A Christmas Story supposed to be set in

WSJ: oh damn this is the epitome of cool and probably we should all start smoking again.
With more actors, pop stars and other celebrities spotted unapologetically smoking, the cultural taboo against it shows signs of ebbing. That worries antismoking advocates. 🔗 on.wsj.com/49om2X4

I am skeptical that it’s ever going to really bounce back in America. It’s just too expensive and annoying now since you basically can’t smoke inside any workplace or public establishment

Kind of weird that there are numerous health care policy experts on here but I only ever see Mark arguing with random socialists on posts. Host a frigging conference or something man
I'm here willing to read anything someone puts together that details how we can get from here to there

I'm all for universal healthcare. Tell me how we get there.

JUST IN: CBS’s Kennedy Center Honors just hit an all-time ratings low. Preliminary Nielsen data shows only ~2.65M viewers tuned in to the Trump-hosted show, down from 4.1M in 2024. A stunning 35% year-over-year collapse.

It’s bullshit that NORAD’s Santa tracker has always just been a big goof, is it their fucking job to monitor our airspace or not
npr.org NPR @npr.org · 1d
It all started in 1955 with a misprint in a Colorado newspaper and a call to Col. Harry Shoup's secret military hotline. Shoup played along with the tiny voice who called, and a tradition was born.

The Truce Is 2 Months Old. So Why Have Hundreds of Gazans Been Killed?
Since the cease-fire took effect, Israel says it has targeted only militants. But death can come for Gazans while on a family outing or sleeping in a tent.

Mystified by Dems worriedly telling everyone to be careful because the letter is probably fake. There's no proof it's fake. Just take the win! Act like Republicans for once and run with it. Assume it's real. Donald Trump is a pedophile. Make headlines. Do TikTok videos. Shove it down their throats.

Comparing the Epstein-Nasser letter to the forged Bush ANG letters that sank Dan Rather doesn’t make much sense imo. Those letters were fairly obvious forgeries that fell apart quickly, they would have required the military to use a proportional-font typewriter that was extremely rare in that era

Mayor @wutrain.bsky.social let’s do it too
Year 1 data on congestion pricing in Manhattan…

* Vehicle traffic: -11%
* Foot traffic: +3.4%
* Storefront vacancy: -0.9%
* Pollution: -22%
* Revenue for mass transit: $548M

So YES this has been a huge success.

This is definitely the letter that was sent and returned to sender and found in the prison's mailroom (reported on in 2023) It seems implausible someone would fake it unless he was already dead, but that's not what the timing suggests. He was alive when this was mailed. It was probably him.
December 23, 2025 at 1:16 PM
A bunch of commentators are busy qualifying this like “well what if it’s fake” and I submit to you that’s the whole problem, piles of piles of evidence exist on every vector and the reflex is to let him of the hook like “well what would constitute PROOF”
DOJ briefly uploaded this letter from Jeff Epstein to serial child molester Larry Nassar:

"Our president shares our love of young, nubile girls. When a young beauty walked by he loved to 'grab snatch,' whereas we ended up snatching grub in the mess halls of the system."
