I know everyone is upset about the deal, but don’t worry. We’ll be doing this again in a month.

Optimistic case: the GOP still owns the terrible policy they’re pushing and most people blame them for it, the people mad at Dems are already mostly Dems and they exert their vengeance in the primaries - which should definitely affect what kind of Dem candidates get on the ballot

The best take on all of this shutdown came from @shannonrwatts.bsky.social who told me this would only end by Republicans killing the filibuster or Democrats caving. That’s it. But Schumer somehow broadcast that Republicans would cave when they never gave any indication they would.

At this point I'm pretty sure the only people Congress can prevent the president from firing are Governors of the Fed, and I bet the Supreme Court goes ahead and grabs that third rail too. This is like Congress saying "Trump can't withhold USAID payments"—yea sure whatever u say lol
“No RIFs permitted” is just laughable, the administration is just going to do what they want anyway
Here's the full text of the deal:
- House CR extended to January 30, no RIFs permitted until then
- Minibus
- Ds get a filibusterable ACA vote in December

several justices probably think it’s unconstitutional to restrict the president’s authority to fire an employee anyway

Senate in recess till 8:00. I'd like to think that means the Democrats are still in flux.

If Torres and Yglesias are willing to say “are you fucking stupid, why support this bill,” how do you think your donors and primary voters will react.

Why on earth would anybody think that Trump would abide by any deal that Senate Democrats could strike

whoever is feeding this framing is trying to ratfuck
Basically nothing at the VA stops during a shutdown in terms of benefits and not only does SNAP have $ now, it would be funded fully in a CR
So Ag and VA-MILCON getting 26 approps doesn't in fact change any of this

Three appropriations bills are included in the package, including the bills that fund food stamps and veterans benefits, taking away a couple of pain points.

Okay, Ezra is confirming that he's hearing D senators are actually plotting to cave to Trump and end the shutdown WITHOUT any extension of the ACA, just a promise of a vote later down the line.
Call your senators, friends, NOW, and tell them NO DEAL without ACA funding!

Okay yeah the House caucus is pissed.
I don't know what the Senate is going to do. But if they do in fact fold in exchange for nothing, they will be living up to past performance. To expect the Senate to carry out the will of the American people is to misunderstand why it was created in the first place.

Damn I guess you can’t count on that white supremacist fan base to show up at the box office after all
‘CHRISTY’, starring Sydney Sweeney, had one of the worst opening weekends of all time for a movie released in 2,000+ theaters.
