Statement on Shutdown Negotiations

From April

The Trump administration is using government resources to argue before the highest court of the land that they shouldn’t have to feed hungry people. They’d rather Americans starve than just follow the law.
NEW: Trump admin goes to SCOTUS to try and stop order that it pay full SNAP benefits this month

DOJ asks the justices for an order by 9:30 p.m. Friday — as USDA was in the middle of completing its process for making full payments, under a court order to finish Friday.

Now at Law Dork:

We’ve been told for too long that Georgia isn’t ready. That we don’t belong. That change isn’t possible here.

But on Tuesday we proved otherwise, and next year we’ll do the same!

Seeing a debate brewing on how long ACA subsidies should be extended which is an absurd position. As I’ve said weeks ago, why are we negotiating healthcare? There’s no end date to a potential health emergency that risks bankrupting a family.
Thank you to Victor Blackwell for having me on First of All to discuss the shutdown and its impact on Georgians. Healthcare is not a debate. It’s a life saving necessity. #GovernmentShutdown

Furloughed workers and their families are struggling to make ends meet. Millions are at risk of losing healthcare. Yet this what Republicans are prioritizing. Hateful and shameful.
BREAKING: The Supreme Court granted the Trump administration's request to enforce its discriminatory passport policy while our lawsuit makes its way through the courts.

This decision undermines the freedom of transgender, non-binary, and intersex people to have our IDs reflect who we are.

May tonight mark the beginning of the end of every political dynasty that made life harder, nights darker, and the world more violent.

🧇First stop was WaHo in Athens! Thankful to the workers that fed our very hungry crew!

Good morning, Georgia! We’re not wasting a single second. The only way we win is by organizing and talking to voters all over the state. My team and I are on the road today going to Athens, Augusta, Clarkston, and Atlanta!

This feels like something pulled out of a dream that @jamellebouie.net has been writing about for a long time, I’ve been thinking about in Georgia, and folks like @joshforgeorgia.bsky.social, @ruwaromman.bsky.social, @ossoff.bsky.social, @warnock.senate.gov, and @staceyabrams.com have been building.

Yup! Which is why we’ve started field so early. But the question is can we raise money for ads. That’s up to y’all!
(For what it’s worth, I’m absolutely going to be supporting Ruwa and as a start, I’ll be doing my best to get her name out there in the public. Outside of the really in-tuned political nerds, casual voters don’t really knows who she is at this point. That’s the first big hurdle she has to clear).

To everyone not understanding what’s happening in Georgia: we have one of the youngest populations in the country. We’re a majority-minority state. It’s time we campaigned like it.
November 5, 2025 at 3:40 AM
Correct. To the racists in my comments, take note.
iirc there was kind of a lot of attempted race-baiting re: Alicia Johnson, and there was a time that would have worked in Georgia, and that time is no longer
Incredible that @decisiondeskhq.bsky.social already called it. Do y’all believe us now that Georgia is in play next year but only if we organize for it?

Y'all, it's a gorgeous sunny day for voting! ☀️ It's also your LAST CHANCE to vote in the Public Service Commission race.

Polls are open until 7 PM so make your plan, take your friends & everyone else you know, and go vote for Peter Hubbard and Alicia Johnson!

Here’s why I’m NOT voting for Zohran tomorrow…

Every shutdown in my lifetime has happened because of Republican leadership. But this one is particularly cruel because the option they’re presenting is either vote to make health insurance unaffordable or keep this shutdown going that is defunding childcare and SNAP.
