A movie that takes place where you’re from

For better or for worse

This was the first movie I remember seeing that was set in Buffalo, NY.

I am continually shocked by how solidly good It: Welcome to Derry is, considering how cynical an IT prequel TV series is conceptually, not to mention how mid IT: Chapter 2 was.

This amazing queer/trans web series starring some of my friends (including Long Away's amazing @griffinkelly.bsky.social) is doing a funding campaign! It's about a bunch of queer idiots, so it's intensely relatable to me, haha. Consider supporting if you're able! seedandspark.com/fund/unsmall

So I just learned now that Netflix's Ed Gein show literally regurgitated the "he's not a real transexual" narrative from Silence of the Lambs' Buffalo Bill (who was inspired by Gein) while still reifying the idea that gender nonconforming figures are dangerous killers. What a shit show. Literally.

Ok, they're bringing back Stargate. Now we FINALLY can get the resolution to the Stargate Infinity storyline that I know all fans have been clamboring for! youtu.be/CdWG4IRO5Pw?...

I'm getting endlessly frustrated by people saying we hate fascism but not caring about the primary victims of that violence.

Jeff Bezos calling his AI startup “Project Prometheus” feels like a detail that would feel too on the nose for a villain storyline in a scifi b-movie. www.theguardian.com/technology/2...

Frak this Podcast! continues. The crew of Galactica as well as the colonists of New Caprica prepare for a mass evacuation. Also there's some prophecy nonsense for me to complain to @jessiegender.bsky.social about.

Read a bunch of Absolute DC Comics. WOW, they’re all bangers, but Absolute Wonder Woman in specific is fucking amazing.

If you could renew one obscure randomly cancelled tv show that never got to finish its story - what would it be. Mine would be this show

For an essay, I'm curious. What video games do you think fit Lee Edelman’s sinthomosexual? Kefka in FFVI clearly does. I'd argue the ending (NOT the game) of Life is Strange 1 too since you're forced to choose between queer desire & preserving a heteronormative, future-focused society (Arcadia Bay).

It goes to show - Queerness disrupts the heteronormative, reproductive logic that underlies both fascism and liberalism. Even when fascism falls, liberal institutions still move to normalize the intensified persecution of queer people, because the same foundational assumptions remain untouched.

When the US liberated Nazi concentration camps, many queer people stayed in prison because they were seen as having broken the law. Indeed, Paragraph 175, which criminalized gay intercourse in Weimar Germany & had been expanded to include intent by the Nazis, was not abolished by the US after WWII.

I find it fascinating that almost every person's home I visit now has an area set up to be camera-ready, whether through Zoom, a YouTube camera, or something else, to make your living space aesthetically pleasing for people who will never actually physically enter it.

Hot take: The Wrath of Khan is the proto–legacy sequel. It brings back a cast, leans into their aging, resurrects an old villain, and tees up a “next generation” of protégés/nepo babies to inherit the franchise who are then immediately sidelined or discarded in the sequels that follow.
