The New York Times editorial purpose, at this point, seems to be mostly manufacturing consent for attacks on marginalized groups. Including being whiny babies in the replies of trans people pointing out their garbage which they so superciliously claim to be journalism.
The Times's coverage of Feb. 3 and 4 accurately reported the public statements of both the American Society of Plastic Surgeons and the American Medical Association. Our reporting also accurately contextualized the shift from both of these organizations regarding gender-related surgical procedures.

as a tangent, there is this persistent belief that no one would ever do work if they weren't artificially forced to under threat of homelessness and starvation

and like

the fact that so many people are clamoring for these hostile, unreliable gaming jobs is proof that lol yes they fucking would

if you lay off devs immediately after launching a video game—whether that game is a success or not—you are straight up stealing from those devs, and i cannot be convinced otherwise
Wildlight (Highguard) lays off staff according to a LinkedIn post

"Unfortunately, along with most of the team at Wildlight, I was laid off today.

This one really stings as there was a lot of unreleased content I was really looking forward to that I and others designed for Highguard."

The entire purpose of the SAVE Act is to make sure trans people and married women can no longer vote. That's it.
“The SAVE Act will require voters to show proof of citizenship in order to register to vote in federal elections…”

“Only half of Americans hold a valid passport…Birth certificates are also problematic for many married women [whose] name may be different than the name on her birth certificate.”
My new piece is up and it requires your URGENT ATTENTION!

since we're doing the "potential individual trans shooter = epidemic of transgender violence" discourse again, I will re-up this. while there is zero evidence for this correlation, when "rare" ppl engage in "rare" behaviors, we incorrectly presume there must be a connection

unrelated to current events, I've spent much of the last week reading & writing about the social cognition phenomenon of "illusory correlation" – this is the abstract from one of the first studies to describe it (many subsequent studies support it). sharing it now for reasons....

Sometimes people ask a question so asinine and absurd and not at all relevant to what you said its better to block cause you just know any response you give wont satisfy someone who would ask that question in the first place.

The politicians of my county made laws against masking.
I mask up anyway.
Or I stay home, which is what they want: To eliminate disabled people from daily life so they do not have to accommodate nor see the results of their decisions.

Nugget needs some more help and you all showed up last time, so can we do it again 😤??

May I bribe/threaten you with some other WIPs in exchange for Nugget money? See below!
Hey all, Nugget needs more medical tests for liver and kidneys that estimate around $800 plus anything else needed off those tests so I made a GFM for the boy. Any amount helps as does sharing– thank you!

It's incredibly believable that this has happened twice now so far
Police in Bloomington, MN just announced that one of the guys they arrested in an underage sex trafficking sting was a **background checker for ICE agents.**

He had a high security clearance in the Trump administration... and he was caught trying to abuse children. Sickening.

The thing about knowing extensive star wars lore because childhood hyperfixation is sometimes you have to give cartoonish sounding responses to questions from your partner like "what species is yoda" which, and you can check wookiepedia, is canonically unknown and exclusively called "yoda's species"

The best source of information on trafficking is from survivors who have LITERALLY ALREADY SPOKEN UP ABOUT THEIR EXPERIENCES.
Oh my gods I cannot stress this enough, get your information on trafficking from sex worker friendly trafficking survivor run orgs.

The evangelical misogynistic trafficking org that calls the police on strippers and exploits survivors for money is not your go to news source on the Epstein files.

this has come up in my life a few times this week so figured everyone may benefit from a reminder that the abbreviation z-i-o was popularized by david duke; you can surely make your point without vernacular coined by him and similarly hateful duke-types.

People outside of Canada need to realize Mark Carney has cut thousands of public service jobs and fast tracking neoliberal business and energy sales over Indigenous land and LGBTQ+ rights in the country.

He's paving the way for fascism but getting credit as some brave leader calling out Trump
“Canada needs to stand against the kind of intolerance that's sweeping the world.”

Fascism scholar Jason Stanley tells @mehdirhasan.bsky.social why Canadian PM Mark Carney should have more explicitly decried rising global intolerance in his Davos address.

Peter Mandelson shared government financial information with Epstein during the 2008 financial crisis, and remained in contact with him following his first conviction. Keir Starmer was told about all of this and warned not to make him ambassador. It's a huge hit to his already falling credibility
U.K. might lose a prime minister because a guy who worked for him knew another guy who hung out with Epstein. Meanwhile the U.S. opposition party is telling our President, who was Epstein's best friend, that his secret police should get better training so their public street murders look less messy.

Something else I think about is how much these AI prompt jockeys are stealing the experience of writing from themselves, they don't even realize what they're losing out on, cos writing is wonderful and you can grow and learn so much about yourself, the process is a gift. They're robbing themselves.
Even beyond the quality argument, these people aren't even 'writers', they're just assholes hitting what they think is the FREE MONEY button. Which sometimes works, so they keep doing it. If they gave even one solitary shit about art or even storytelling they would know better. They just don't care.
"I can generate a book in a day, and it takes you 6 months to write one"

Have these prompt jockeys never heard the idiom quality over quantity before?

Bad Bunny’s performance began in the plantation, featured broken electric poles, and ended by centering a hemispheric understanding of “América”—among many other things—and some Anglo journalists are like “his performance wasn’t political.”

This is why we need to be telling our stories.

I hate being an art critic in an inherently conservative culture. And I mean all of American culture, including liberal spaces, is conservative in that people just want to reefy old stories and are so hostile to new perspectives and ideas in the US, generally speaking. It’s so tedious.

A lot of people are willing to jump through a lot of hoops to ignore that abuse is a result of power and not an anomaly or the result of a special class of evil people. To get to those positions people required exploitation, why are you shocked that once they have more power they continue to abuse.

Democratizing the arts looks like universal income, low-barrier grants for both emerging and working artists, well-funded municipal arts & recreation programs, vibrant third spaces, and a well-funded public school system with progressive curriculum.

Not a free pass for corporate-owned slop engines.
Every instance of "AI democratizes the arts, you're classist and ableist and a gatekeeper for trying to stop it" is a slap in the face to the literally centuries of poor, disabled people making art on the margins and a crass lie in service of a machine that strips down and regurgitates dreams
