I wrote about the fecklessness of the Democrats ending this shutdown for my newsletter this morning. www.burnsnotice.com/what-was-the...
What Was the Point of the Shutdown?
Democrats asked voters to weather short term pain from the shutdown to get long term gains in extending the ACA health insurance subsidies. Then they threw it all away. So, what was the point of all ...

When I wrote this piece awhile back about Knives Out Glass Onion, one of my local friends said they hadn't seen any of the KO movies. So we got together to watch both of the existing movies and now in a couple weeks all of us are going to the theater to watch the third one when it comes out!

it has been really affirming lately to be getting praise for my straight up politics work. i am really happy i decided to just go for it with the newsletter.

deleted the thread because i am a tired girl and missed that the original post i quoted was two months old and i didn't want to introduce panic in this moment. apologies for the oversight. bottom line is the proposed hyde amendment for gender affirming care is not part of the continuing resolution.

In United States v. Skrmetti, the Supreme Court upheld Tennessee Senate Bill 1 (SB 1), a state law that prohibits transgender minors from accessing gender-affirming care.

It may surprise you that i happen to know a thing or two about LGBTQ rights, as it happens
Black/Brown people don't have that choice. Dems fight for affordability and equality. We can't just opt out because something happens that we don't like. Same for ADA and LGBTQ. Our rights are always under attack.

The Senate has rejected a plan from Sen. Tammy Baldwin D-WI to extend the expiring Obamacare health insurance subsidies for 1 year. Party line vote.

This is not how we got Trump. I voted for Harris and you're allowed to criticize the party! Get real!
And this is how we get Trump. Do. Not. Split. Even when you're furious. Especially when we're furious. Understand the gravity of the moment. We're not supporting him. We're supporting the fight against masked agents pulling people off of the street and children starving to death.
I'll get back to "party unity" as soon as the Senate Minority Leader tells us if he voted for the Democratic party nominee for mayor of his city.

I'm tired of party unity only ever running one way.

Scarleteen has been doing sex ed for ALL since 1998 and is there with sex ed for ALL, to the tune of some five million visitors a month. The people who do this work deserve health care. I am so proud to support their work, and know many of you ALSO believe in sex ed for all, SO now's your moment.

An anonymous donor just offered to match up to $1,000 to my fundraiser in support of health benefits for @scarleteen.com's staff and an as-needed health fund for volunteers, which means your $1 is worth $2! Anyone want to join in with ANOTHER match to turn that into $3?

Powerful from @katelynburns.com on the death of Lia Smith.

I'll never forget watching an anti-trans mvmt leader try to reassure her allies that trans youth "are not suicidal because of us." Now, they either deny trans people's suffering or call it a kind of abuse.

JUST POSTED: Everyone Is Wrong, our response to the recent series of arguments that – based on the hypothesis that Harris lost and Dems underperformed in 2024 due to (summarizing broadly) voters’ perceptions that Dems are too far left – Democrats need to move right to win.

Resources like Scarleteen are under attack right now thanks to a hostile, censorious, puritan government. And, as illustrated last night, health care precarity in the US is a really big problem. Health educators deserve health care!
It's that time of year again: @scarleteen.com is holding their annual fundraiser to support inclusive, comprehensive, loving sex ed, and this year, they're raising money for health benefits for paid staff. I set a goal of $500 for my personal fundraiser, but please help me get way over the top!

For my first piece back from vacation, I blogged about the people who moved from Texas to Russia to escape gay people and then found out living in Russia kind of sucks:

www.chron.com/culture/arti...
They left Texas for Russia to escape 'LGBT indoctrination.' Turns out, it sucks.
Their Texas towns had too much "DEI" and "LGBT indoctrination." So they moved to Russia and became influencers.

Alaska Dems need to stop cribbing from the national party & look at what is actually winning campaigns.

Because it's not throwing marginalized groups of people under the bus in an effort to capitulate to so-called moderates who are just pulling the party further right.

For my newsletter, I took a deeper look at the electoral record of WelcomePAC, a centrist group that produced that 352 page document advising Democrats to moderate once again.

Turns out the campaigns they work for aren't winning. www.burnsnotice.com/fire-the-con...
