Obama 2004: “There is no red America or blue America, there is just the United States of America.”

Mamdani 2025: “To get to any of us, you will have to go through all of us.”
Mamdani: "New York will remain a city of immigrants, a city built by immigrants, powered by immigrants, and as of tonight, led by an immigrant."
WOW. 81% of women 18-29 voted for Mamdani, 80% for Sherril, and 78% for Spanberger.

Gen Z women aren't playing around.
Republicans thought they had a permanent hold over young men. They didn't.

Spanberger wins men 18-29 by 14%, Sherrill by 10%, and Mamdani by a stunning 40%.

Honoured that my "Absented at the Creation: Nuremberg Women & International Criminal Justice"(academic.oup.com/edited-volum...) is among works by 4 dozen contributors to this new collection

Slight modification: Voters don't like inflation when it occurs against backdrop of entrenched wage stagnation

The judgment has now been published, link below. Worth noting that the Legacy Act amendments will restore the ability to bring civil actions, on a lower standard of proof, and that Soldier F isn't the subject of a witch hunt - he was undoubtedly deep in the wrong:

A day where law and justice feel far apart. But criminal law really struggles to function at 53 years of remove, when so many witnesses are dead. Injustice was assured when it took this long for the state to recognise its wrongdoing and start proceedings:

#Israel obligated not to impede UN, other orgs & 3rd states to provide assistance. Right to self-determination incl independent & sovereign state living in peace next to Israel would contribute to regional stability & security of all states in Middle East.

ICERD, ICCPR, ICESCR, CEDAW, CAT, CROC, CRPD all relevant!! #ICJ says #humanRights obligations outside its own territory, esp in OT applies with respect to all these treaties. CIL also applies. Wide range of human rights apply & are relevant to OPT pop'n. All alongside #IHL occupation obligations.
The huge No Kings protests, an estimated 7 million people addressing America's worst crisis since the Civil War, get a tiny headline on the New York Times homepage, with no photo.
Why does NYT think change happens only when politicians hold news conferences and not when everyday people take action?

Of all the news in this NYT survey of sitting federal judges - incl 47 of them think the SCt is mishandling its emergency docket - maybe the biggest is that 65 sitting fed judges (37D, 28R), folks circumspect for a living, responded to a NYT survey. Stunning. And a sign that something is very wrong.

As today is Hans Kelsen's birthday, a reminder:

"The elimination of war is our paramount problem. It is a problem of international policy, and the most important means of international policy is international law."

Worth noting: Quote simply echoes US anti-ICC sanctions' statutory prerequisite. 1st step in 2025 & 2020 alike was presidential declaration whole institution (ICC)=threat to national security of US or its allies (see my post ⬇️). Should've been more attention to/pushback against that 1st time 'round.
Wrote this piece on the need to recognise gendered oppression - in all its forms - as always the path to #tyranny.

Gendered domination is alway present but failing to confront that = also failing to see the rapid return to patriarchy as the first sign of authoritarianism

Happy 71st Birthday to Ruby Bridges, who at the age of 6 desegregated the New Orleans public schools.

She’s younger than 30 senators and our last two presidents—and only 7 years older than Barack Obama.

The past isn’t past.
