Harrison Pitt accuses the King of treachery. Pitt is a Senior Policy Fellow for Rupert Lowe's Restore Britain, who also regularly co-hosts podcasts with his ally Tomlinson (who advocates banning all ethnic and faith minorities from public office). Like Lowe, Pitt is keen to dissolve boundaries/norms
NYT provides no evidence here, probably because the claim is flatly untrue. See eg recent Pew data, or many posts on the subject from @gelliottmorris.com this year

DOGE was A LOT less likely to cancel contracts from companies that donated money to Republicans than companies that donated to Democrats.

Yeah. The replies was the first sign the platform was not the same.

Anyone saying ‘My experience of X has not changed at all’ is displaying a surprising level of credulity.

Also, it’s a big assumption that (1) is true given how much Musk has changed the architecture of X.
I don't think you can explain people staying on X without saying something about their discomfort or lack of it with the use of the platform to promote racism and fascism in the US and elsewhere. Not mentioning the topic is very revealing.
I saw someone ask why anyone would still use X when Bluesky is available.

I think the explanation is:

1 Experience on a platform depends far more on who you interact with there than on the platform overall.

2 The experience you get on academic adjacent Bluesky is not a good fit for everyone.

Sad and predictable but also interesting and revealing to see the angry reaction from the populist right to the King's Speech. They're reading it as a call for tolerance of diversity, approval for multi-faith, multi-cultural UK, and supportive of Ukraine. Which I think it was & intentionally so. 1/3

Jimmy Kimmel appeared on British television screens on Christmas Day to deliver a so-called “alternative Christmas message,” in which he said tyranny was “booming” in the U.S.
Kimmel Tells U.K. Viewers ‘Tyranny Is Booming’ in America
Chosen by a British TV station to give an “alternative” to the king’s speech, Jimmy Kimmel said it had been a great year for the U.S. “from a fascism perspective.”

You guys caught this too, right?

“Donald J. Trump had raped her along with Jeffrey Epstein.” ███████ noted some girl with a funny name “took me into a fancy hotel or building, that’s how it happened.”

Also this: she was advised to call the police. But she replied, “I can’t, they will kill me.”

That’s another 10,000 copies sold…

Have you considered doing personal messages on Cameo Jonn?

It means it is smokey!

Happy Xmas Tim. I will out nerd you on the Larry sanders show any time!

The President personally designing battleships because he wants them to look badass is not doing much to challenge the "everyone is 12 now" theory of American governance.
When decimalisation occurred in 1966, the Australian government compiled an 81 page file on dangers of using decimal coins in Christmas puddings. There was a media campaign warning people not to use the new coins in their cooking. The file is now digitised.

Merry Christmas to everyone but especially every dad and granddad in Britain who is unwrapping four copies each of Jonn Elledge’s borders book.

Just a general reminder that your experience on any social media app depends a lot on what *you* make of it. It is easy to find some annoying people on any platform. But platforms like Bluesky also give *you* way more power to control your own experience and to fix whatever annoys you.

Waves from the 'Anger, hatred and frustration' nebula of bluesky.

No shock. This app has turned my mentions, and others, into mostly hate. But there are a few people worth connecting with

CRAZY how it's easier these days to have a real discussion on X, or threads, than on here.

It's a SMWS special bottling, so they don't say.... (usually it's possible to tell from the SMWS codes, but not for these specials - it could be more than one distillery).

You're the pollster, you tell us - snap poll! (Happy Xmas Adam!)

Trump: I am fine. You sound beautiful and cute. How old are you?

Caller: I am eight

Chris Morris is another genius. There are so many clips to choose from, but this from 1994 was way ahead of its time in terms of cultural commentary (remarkable to think there were only six episodes of The Day Today).
