@sarahtaber.bsky.social Hi Sarah! I appreciate your content covering the agriculture industry, I’ve learned so much from following you. Do you have a Substack/blog and/or do you have any suggestions for more long-form blog content from reputable people in the field? Thanks :)

Do you think unbending Clippy until he was a long piece of metal would be painful for him. Or do you think it would cause him to feel a great sense of relief

Patient, sobbing: But Doctor, I AM Pagliacci!
ChatGPT: Apologies. I didn't realise when recommending Pagliacci's epic show to cure your depression that you were the genius himself. I'm impressed! With regards to your initial question, I can recommend seeing the Great Clown Pagliacci.

Okay, lets do this.

I’m petrified about today’s science news. Genetically modifying crabs to have cheetah genes? This could go sideways fast.

A feature I’d like to see added to this app is the ability to search for people you follow based on a vague description of their profile picture when you forget what their name is

There are no distractions. It's all bad. Systematically stripping trans people of their rights, guys in balaclavas shoving any brown person with a tattoo into a ummarked vans, ending healthcare for millions. It's all in service of fascism and technofeudalism. It's all one thing. That's the point.

Surprisingly enough this is not describing the modern day moment - the whole thread is really worth a read
So you have a population that is functionally illiterate, a publishing industry discovering that craft is somewhere between irrelevant and harmful to sales, reactionaries realizing they can censor anything by screaming loud enough, and the greatest artists of the last generation dying in their 30s.

Journalists and others, take note: this is an excellent, comprehensive, and up-to-date perspective on the still-escalating threats to NOAA beyond the NWS. NWS remains in pretty dire straits, yet the prospects for the rest of NOAA are actually even more dire (especially with respect to climate).
ICYMI: I wrote about the likely demise of the federal government's climate website (and how it's demise could be better than other end states) and why I am even more worried about the rest of NOAA beyond just NWS.

Peace is important and necessary but we can’t pretend that it is a thing that we have any control over in the narrative.

So stop demanding that our side stay peaceful and start demanding that their side do it.

Happy Tuesday! Who's ready to hear about

1. Flesh-eating maggots (mostly go after cattle)

2. They're native to the US

3. The USDA has kept them out of the US since the 1960s

4. But the flesh-eating maggots are making a 21st century comeback. And believe it or not it may be thanks to MAGA.
