A little poem to start off the new year.
My apologies to W. H. Auden, and to villanelles in general.

Not paying $250 for a review copy of Murder on the Mississippi, but at least we can read the whole press release...

Not the biggest score at all but very cheap! Ask your GameStops if they have retro stuff.

it’s stupid when gamers say gaming is expensive, yet ignore ROM hacks. It’s like saying you’re hungry when there’s a fan translation of Linkle Liver Story on the ground outside

Making a very late appearance in my games-of-2025 is Quartet, an RPG heavily influenced by the best 16-bit games -- I'm only about six hours in so far, but the story, graphics, music, combat systems all feel very strong.

Interesting find at local game store: Joystick attachments for Intellivision controllers!

I can't find any other examples of this product online or any info about it at all. Weird little bit of history:

Wife: Do you know what this fruit is called?

Me: Yoshi melon. Yoshi's Story melon? Melon Yoshi eats.

Wario World is so good. I don't think I appreciated it as much at the time but it's full of Weird Little Guys and it's extremely stupid and funny

Saw a post elsewhere about someone finding a GI Joe aircraft carrier and lots of comments saying "Just so you know, that's not the VINTAGE one. That one's from 2001" and wow do I have some bad news for them

Seconding this because I saw it and was like yes! This is how I feel!

Never ever again messing with scissors, regular printer, ink, tape, etc. The dollars-to-less-aggravation ratio is off the charts.
thermal label printer is best purchase of my life and it's not particularly close

This would be perfect for my TV game show about identifying fake prototypes, called "Dump It... Or Lump It!"
Ah, the Mexican prototype forger returns! This is the latest in a series of similar forgeries that rip off game collectors around Mexico City. The scammer peels labels off retail games to make them kinda look like prototypes to the untrained eye. www.reddit.com/r/retrogamin...

Finally did a silly little digital preservation bucket list item: scanned the actual CMYK plates used to print a video game box using an oversized film scanner, and combined them in Photoshop to make a "perfect" digital version.

I don't know if I ever shared this at the time but last year I got this for five american dollars at Portland Retro. Original baggie and all. One of Sid Meier's first games, one of the first MicroProse games, in what I think is the very earliest packaging.

The Video Game History Foundation does incredible work, of which this is just one example, but let's also all agree that @philsalv.bsky.social is a goddamned national treasure
As part of our project to preserve the history of Sega Channel, we have recovered OVER 100 new Sega Channel ROMs, including the legendary lost game Garfield: Caught in the Act - The Lost Levels.
