But yes - it's hard to identify a singular general cause. Perhaps in another few cycles, heterogeneity across states will provide more insights.

This is certainly a piece of the puzzle explaining why the drop precedes COVID (at similar rate): www.aeaweb.org/articles?id=... I've found it interesting to see that, especially for grade 8, states like FL have continued to drop sharply while others have begun to rebound.
Do School Spending Cuts Matter? Evidence from the Great Recession

2025 is now, officially, the worst year for job creation outside of recession since 2003.

Think about the mindset, and the expectation of immunity, of someone who texts this to friends.

Linda McMahon: "We want to make sure they are not rabble rousers, they are not coming in to be activists, but they are coming in to academia"

They've been informed - time and time again - There is no way a responsible, credible researcher can continue to use such deceitful "analyses" to make such bogus claims. Either incompetent (to dumb to know better) or intentional deceit or some mix of both. You decide.

In Vance’s defense he learned the law at Yale
This is not the law.
The federal government claimed that the states have no jurisdiction to prosecute murders committed by its agents is the kind of thing the Founders would probably have done a whole entire revolution over
This is bullshit. They absolutely have jurisdiction.
Noem on Minnesota officials: "They have not been cut out. They don't have any jurisdiction in this investigation."
Swalwell: You better believe that accountability is coming. Immunity is going to be stripped. And to Kristi Noem, Tom “Cashbag” Homan, Greg Bovino—your asses are going to be in these witness chairs.

A 23 year old larping as a journalist made a misleading and inaccurate YouTube video that the administration full of chronically online shitposters used to justify the “largest immigration operation ever” and now someone is dead
Mayor Jacob Frey: "They are already trying to spin this as an action of self defense. Having seen the video myself, I want to tell everybody directly that is bullshit."
Remember: Federal officials do not enjoy categorical, absolute immunity from state-level prosecutions. They are entitled to removal to federal court. But conduct that is unreasonable or unnecessary for the execution of their law enforcement duties is susceptible to criminal prosecution.
