it’s insane that a decade ago we all agreed that giving mass shooters the attention they desired was a bad thing but now because rightwingers will quite literally lie about the shooter every single time we all have to be acutely aware of the shooters intentions and ideology

I thought we were cancelling Worldcon given the frankly odious way a) they work and b) the increasingly problematic committees that govern the structure?

Oh yeah, the Oxford comma, the Oxford comma. People love to go on about the Oxford comma. Put this comma in everything, it’s the bee’s knees. You’ve gotta line up to give props to the Oxford comma. Fucking Oxford comma. People wouldn’t give a fuck if it was the Monash comma.

Why is Chris Luxon holding an umbrella over Harpo Marx in an empty stadium before dawn in the pouring rain? I don't think I've seen this movie.

My first paper is out in #SociologicalScience!
With Jörg Stolz and Ruud Luijkx, we found robust evidence of ideological #bias in #secularization research: researchers' own religiosity is correlated with their probability of finding evidence of religious decline in their publications.

Someone go post this on Threads cuz I don’t have it?
It took a hot minute, but I can finally share my new paper on evidentiary pragmatism in transgender health care!

In it, I propose a new principle for evaluating scientific evidence based on the best reasonably achievable evidence, avoiding the ‘catch-22’ where trans care can never be justified.

Fascinating paper! Scholars who are secular are more likely to believe in secularization & find evidence of it in their research. The opposite pattern is true for scholars who are religious.

This is worth your time to read in full:

Holding a flimsy umbrella against the weather to protect pork barrel funding for foreign sporting organizations while the country drowns and is flattened by wind and being sycophantically praised for it by your own team really should be a symbol of this govt's priorities but let's see how it's read.

Failing to check the weather forecast ahead of their outdoor promotional event, then declaring themselves heroes for having to run out with an umbrella when it rains, seems symbolic of this government.

For all the shit it unleashed on the world, 4chan did have one good feature: "sage"

(It didn't come up with on its own, of course; it was copied from 2ch)

It was very simple: you put "sage" in the email field while replying to a thread, and that reply would not boost it to the top of the board.

Obvious dog-whistle aside, the whole *original idea* behind the USA, as the founders themselves said many times, was the creating of a nation bound not by ethnicity or faith, but by shared ideals (the implementation of which has been, uh, uneven, to say the least, but that was always the goal)
1/3 What Musk is really referring to here is, of course “race” - that construct that served to define the hierarchies of wealth & power structured by modern colonialism. Like other far right racists though, he uses the word “culture” as a seemingly less pernicious synonym.

Chomsky engaged in manufacturing consent for narcissistic creeps with delusions of intelligence.
"One Edge member and Epstein consort, the anarchist Noam Chomsky, described this ethos: “The cool observers – meaning us smart guys – it’s our task to impose necessary illusions and emotionally potent oversimplifications to keep these poor simpletons on course.”

"I have searched the depths of Legal Arguments not yet articulated and will be presenting an irrefutable one soon" sounds an awful lot like "I have discovered a truly marvelous proof of this, which this margin is too narrow to contain"...
"Whether approved by Congress or not" is certainly not "what our Founders desired."
