This is just like UBI. Every study shows it works and is more cost effective but societies‘ hatred of poor people means we‘d rather pay more to make them suffer.
Anderson Cooper: “So it's more expensive to have a chronically homeless person living on the streets than it is to actually subsidize an apartment for them?”

Answer: “Yes, we’re paying more as taxpayers to walk past that person on the street and do nothing…” #HousingFirst

I’ve been bedridden for two days now (getting better tho) and have even had to resort to looking at Twitter’s algorithmic feed for entertainment.

I’m most surprised how bad it is. I don’t get the right-wing stuff many complain about, I just get the most boring and repetitive junk.

In terms of what cures are being lost:

- Epstein-Barr virus is perhaps the major trigger for multiple sclerosis
- herpes simplex virus causes cold sores, genital herpes, infections in babies, deadly meningitis
- shingles virus causes an intensely painful disease

What a perfect reason for a rewatch. I love it how they plan to release an episode per week. That’ll be two whole years.

Sir Ian McKellen performing a monologue from Shakespeare’s Sir Thomas More on the Stephen Colbert show. Never have I heard this monologue performed with such a keen sense of prescience. Nor have I ever been in this exact historical moment.TY Sir Ian, for reaching us once again.

The Arctic outside is driving the thermostat wild. During the weekend, I discovered the radiator in the bedroom can get quite hot… and I sleep less than a meter away from it.

Last night, I closed the valve down completely. It’s so much nicer to sleep when you’re not LARPing a rotisserie chicken.

I don't often celebrate an extinction event but the Worm can't drop dead fast enough. Perhaps single digit numbers this year 🤩
Jimmy Carter fought to eradicate Guinea Worm, a horrific parasite. I wish he were still alive to hear that in 2025 there were only 10 cases in humans worldwide. We're so close to making it only the second human disease to be eradicated, after smallpox. www.cartercenter.org/news/guinea-...
Guinea Worm Disease Reaches All-Time Low: Only 10 Human Cases Reported in 2025
Only 10 human cases of Guinea worm were reported worldwide in 2025, the lowest number ever recorded, bringing the ancient disease closer than ever to eradication.

It’s hard to understand how badly Tesla flubbed its lead. The European markets are starting to pull stronger and stronger but Tesla is losing sales
See Number 6 to Number 10? If things go as they have been, we'll see those 5 markets cross the 50% BEV market share this year.
Will be an interesting year for BEV headlines.

People keep saying the codenames in Metal Gear Solid sound like Megaman X bosses, so I decided to give them actual designs. Matches the scale of my other X mockups.

Something I've been sitting on for several years that I finally decided to wrap up tonight.

Bloomsbury, 1933, and each week my father & his pals were going to meetings & marches to try to do something, anything, about the rising anti-semitism in Germany. Everyone was fully aware of what was happening. Fully aware. This was six years before the outbreak of war.

I'm trying to reduce the amount of services I buy from the US. The European competitors to Strava are all a bit unpolished, but I suppose I can drop the premium subscription. One more drop in the bucket.

Today this dumbass can barely walk because doing 4x40 minutes of exercise at 160 bpm average heart rate is actually pretty rough 💀
This thread matches my experiences too. Even when bike commuting is tough it’s still very good.
the vibe-economics of biking to work are so unexpected, like bicycling seems like a dramatically more leisurely way to travel but then it isn’t actually much slower than traffic on the 101 and also the quality of time itself is SO much improved that the whole day is better and more useful?
