"The simple fact is that Israeli actions endanger all of us, including Jews. Because what Israel is doing claims to in our name, in my name. And believe me when I say it is not in my name."

Thank you to advisory committee member, Antony Loewenstein for speaking out at last night's rally

This is maddening nonsense from Albanese.

Herzog is the President of *Israel*. He’s not the “head of state” for Jews.

This transformation of Jews into some convenient monolith is perverse.

Opinion | Social cohesion is nothing more than a scam perpetrated by the powerful — backed by police violence, writes Bernard Keane. buff.ly/uvMgD4s
Nothing says cohesion like a punch in the head: Violence of Minns' goons exposes the lie of 'social cohesion'
NSW Police's actions against protesters in in Sydney was about the powerful dictating the terms of free speech — through state-sanctioned violence if necessary.

Like many, I was introduced to his work as a teen and was immediately fascinated with his confidence, his bravado, in depicting epic, tension-filled scenes of my favorite heroes such as John Carter of Mars and Conan the Barbarian.

🎉Happy Birthday to the Maestro of Fantasy, Frank Frazetta, who was born on this day back in 1928!

Frazetta is beloved the world over for his pulpy paperback and comic book covers, featuring brawny warriors in bold acts of heroism.🧵

"Social cohesion is a scam, a strategy employed by the powerful to delegitimise and suppress the voices of the less powerful... If you are othered by powerful groups, you become the victim of cohesion, not the beneficiary; what you get from social cohesion is a punch from an armed official."

It wasn’t impossible - the cops where there to incite violence. And Albanese (and everyone else) knew this would happen and he let it.

Bookstagram is an amazing place where someone will say they are posting about the "unheralded," "underrated" books they wish to boost, and then the first book they talk about will literally be a Booker Prize winner

Sometimes you read a line that makes a whole novel seem silly.

This is such a line, from Roland Green’s pastiche CONAN AND THE DEATH LORD OF THANZA.

Yeah, Conan is a male fantasy. But fantasies need a lot of work to maintain plausibility — or they seem tawdry, and the fun is gone.

Tomorrow we release the final episode of Backlisted for the foreseeable future.* After ten years, it's a very odd feeling. I am looking forward to spending more time with my books and fewer times on social media.

* Boats against the current, we beat on via Patreon.

Vale Jon Kudelka (1972-2026). He was one of the sharpest political cartoonists this country has ever produced. He saw through the folly and cant but never let it dim his own warmth or decency. Thoughts are with his family. You can read his essay on cartooning here:

Lessons from political cartooning
After being diagnosed with an inoperable glioblastoma, The Saturday Paper’s editorial cartoonist took time to consider what really matters – and it is not politics.
