we gotta torch the climate so that repeatedly successful Dems in swing districts can win by a larger margin
when we said “defer electoral strategy to the actual politicians running for actual offices” we meant “after calculating wins above replacement somehow”

criticizing Israel is not antisemitism but basically any right-wing criticism of Israel is likely to be antisemitic or antisemitism-adjacent for the same reasons that right-wing criticisms of Muslim-run autocracies are uniformly Islamophobic and usually anti-Arab trash
When Vance says that criticizing Israel is not antisemitism, we should all be clear that he's talking about Nick Fuentes and not, say, immigrant grad students protesting genocide.
Now that JD Vance has said "criticizing Israel is not Antisemitism" (CIINA), people on the left should do two things:

1) Watch how he applies this (hint: it will be to protect young white nationalists, not Palestinians);

2) Make sure that "CIINA" is not the only thing you know about antisemitism.

it's kind of funny from a economic policy perspective, Bidenomics was actually fairly successful (full employment, IRA + other state-driven investment)

he just... never really managed to figure out how to sell any of it with comms
Pretty sure a president who could communicate well and wasn’t a bazillion years old could have explained to the public why this is Actually Good.

I think it's funny that Yglesias uses the term "clout chasing" without any apparent consideration of what that actually translates to when it's a national politician
Yglesias referring to Senator Van Hollen as a "safe seat clout-chaser" is so despicable. VH took a stand to prevent Abrego García - an innocent man - from being disappeared into CECOT for life.
matt & co’s theory of how public opinion on immigration would respond to new information was simply empirically wrong.
at this point the only reasonable conclusion is they refuse to update their priors w/ new data because the data is inconvenient for them

The Council's Airbnb bill appears dead, as sources say a prelim call has been made to not vote on it tmrw.

This comes after a messy battle that had Adrienne Adams (outgoing speaker) on one side and Julie Menin (incoming speaker) on the other.

Vaccines, BLM, and MeToo collectively weakened their civilizational baseline.

SVB bailout made them understand what industrial policy could do, if in the right hands.

January 6 and October 7 broke their association with representative democracy.
the key to understanding this is the SV technocapitalists all went insane during COVID
It’s so fucking insane they didn’t go in with the overly tech friendly Dems who love cheap green power basically for culture war reasons

Marjorie Taylor Greene: "What I'd like to see from the president is empathy for Americans. Donald Trump is a billionaire and he's the president. When he looks into a camera and says 'affordability is a hoax,' he's talking to Americans that are suffering and have been for many years now."

There is an interesting albeit not that deep tension in how pro Israel American politicians and outlets talk about Arab states— they bemoan the lack of democracy but are also aware that any democratic Arab state would be more anti Israel than the regime it'd replace, and so they support the regime.
What is all the more bewildering though is that the Saudi state is still remarkably friendly to Israel, and is friendly against the wishes of the Saudi public. This sort of complaining by pro Israel outlets looks absurd in this context. It is almost impossible for Saudi to be more pro Israel.

Don't throw him a lifeline with another question if he dodges. Have each other's backs and demand he answer the question.

growing problem for the dems is that their voters want progressive candidates but the party leadership generally doesn't. so there's no structure to identify and vet good progressive candidates until it's too late.
The noisiest Dem primary so far is probably Maine Senate, and here for instance I think it’s useful to see that despite all the bad publicity Platner still appears to be the favorite:
