I still don't think this will be in any way damaging to Democrats outside the most engaged partisans but their utter failure to provide a theory of action because they were too panicked over air travel to pretend it was about SNAP is going to spawn several annoying zombie myths.
It's becoming clear that a lot of people thought that the extended ACA subsidies existed until the shutdown ended, and it was the decision of Senate Democrats to fold that allowed them to be defunded which is..........not actually true.

Real talk you’re seeing Utah Republican state legislators freak the fuck out realizing that if someone sues over the legislative maps they are probably getting slapped down and having to run on fair maps for the first time ever

the thing about us evangelicalism is at it’s core it’s antinomian
From the outside US evangelicalism is a very puzzling religious group because ostensibly they are very concerned with the moral teachings of a publicly accessible text but also they seem to have inferred completely the opposite lessons from that text than what everyone else thinks is the plain read.
so my town has been hosting an emergency food drive for snap recipients. the town, high school clubs, the Y, the churches (Episcopal, Presbyterians, Lutherans, Baptists, Unitarians, and the Catholics) & the synagogue, are involved.

You know who isn't participating? the fucking evangelicals.

Looking at the guys, for however briefly you see them in the video, and the fact that they were immediately all over Hasan the moment he pulled out a Mao meme, tells me that these were not the regular people’s (armed) police, but the MSS

i don't think anyone on here adequately understands how crazy this is, coming from *Val Hoyle*
she showed up at vigil in CG for the abducted families, sounded genuinely angry, and actually acknowledged how her power protects her by comparison with everyone else. she offered her office to local organizations as a protected space

ICE does not currently have a detention facility in Oregon; anyone routed through Salem or Portland ends up in Tacoma. www.opb.org/article/2025...
Newport officials raise alarm about possible new ICE facility
Rumors have spread since last week that the Trump administration is planning an outpost on Oregon's central coast.

this is precisely it. it's exactly why @repvalhoyle.bsky.social saying what she did tonight about the dangers we are all in felt actually meaningful
seems to me that those democrats inclined not to fight perceive themselves as living through a somewhat ordinary cycle of presidential overreach and backlash and not something much more significant and dangerous

i think a lot of us if plucked off the street and sworn in as a senator would do a modestly better job than a lot of our incumbents
all of these people live in a comfortable room-temperature fog of steakhouse dinners, galas held in their honor, and important decisions prechewed for them and fed to them by adoring but interchangable young people selected to be as inoffensive to them as possible by their chiefs of staff.

Heinrich is claiming ignorance and explicitly blasted Schumer (along with Thune), and Murray is doing her usual "WHAT-WHAT-WHAT" Mrs Broflovski bit

I'm not inclined entirely to let them off the hook (esp Murray), but I'll give Heinrich credit for explicitly saying Schumer helped Thune do it
The Senate has found a thing they don't like QI for: anyone investigating them for doing crimes (it explicitly waives any claim of QI lol)

Also this passed through regular order via approps, not any CR stuff, so Murray along with Heinrich and Ossoff should be the ones getting blasted for this
I am kind of sitting here mouth agape as I realize that the thing that really got eight Democrats to cave was a provision which provides backdoor criminal and civil immunity to them personally by making it functionally impossible to ever investigate the Senate

pretty sure I went to college with this guy. definitely a better reason to remember he exists than the israeli kid I shared a bathroom with writing a shockingly tone deaf piece in the NYT lol
Kyle Kingsbury is not a journalist. He is not an op-ed writer.

He is a computer safety researcher.

And he has written one of the most compelling, comprehensive accounts of the ongoing hell in Chicago that you could possibly imagine.

In under 1600 words.

The basic problem of health insurance: if you want sick people to be able to get insurance, then the insurance product ceases to be traditional insurance, bc the insurer cannot price risk. Once you accept that sick people should get insurance, you must accept some variety of a socialized system.
Rick Scott told me his plan would be to take all of the remaining ACA subsidies and redistribute them to HSA accounts and people can then buy whatever insurance a state certifies. Basically a repeal/replace.
He denied when I asked wouldn’t that create two-tiered system where sick pay much more…

if AIPAC was the only actor pulling Democrats in reactionary, capital-favoring directions that would be extremely convenient, alas we live in the real world
there is no reason that AIPAC would want to buy an end to the shutdown, but unconditional support for Israel as it plunges off a right-wing cliff and chronic Senate brain in the face of fascism are both kinds of toxic nostalgia which powerful, elderly morons wrap around themselves like warm blankets

Sheldon remind me when did Chuck Schumer fight united with the Democratic nominee for mayor of New York
The sooner we get past internal recriminations and back to fighting united, the better off we all are — the likelier our victory next November.

no one not calling for Schumer's job, who is in a position to actually take it away from him, deserves your uncritical, automatic support.

we'll come back together when the primaries are over next year. right now they are all on notice.
It’s wild to suggest this is a circular firing squad or something when it’s millions of citizen Democrats who hate it versus 47 elected Democrats who conspired to surrender for nothing.

We’re not fighting “each other,” we’re fighting you. There’s only a few dozen of you, but you hold all the power.
But there are real dangers out there that must be fought; and energy spent fighting each other is energy lost to that bigger fight.
