For those of you playing at home, right now we have 218 R 213 D in the House. We will take back Sylvester Turner’s seat 1/31 and Mikie Sherrill’s in April. That leaves MTG’s and LaMalfa’s seats open.
Never be afraid of the Republican party, their majority is a soap bubble.
California Republican Rep. Doug LaMalfa has died, the House of Representatives GOP said on Tuesday. He was 65… (developing story please check back for updates) - @cnbc.com www.cnbc.com/2026/01/06/d...

If ilhan Omar had a "favorite philosopher" who said something like this, the media would literally hound her into resigning. But they don't even report on the fact that the sitting vice president loves this guy, a disgusting anti-semite
Quick question: what the FUCK?!?

one of the guys who was going to be wiped out by Prop 50.
Republican Rep. Doug LaMalfa, a rice farmer who served in political office in California for more than two decades, died suddenly, House GOP leaders say. He was 65.
GOP Rep. Doug LaMalfa dies at 65
The sudden death of the California Republican and Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene's resignation cuts the GOP's fragile House majority to 218-213, with no margin for error.

Part of police reform in the country needs to be when you arrest people on clearly spurious reasons, the police get immediately charged with 'kidnapping + abuse of authority', which bare minimum results in them never being a police officer again + restitution and jail time.
another example of our incredibly weird status quo - this happened, the cops couldn't actually charge her, and she's been confirmed as released
What in the Gestapo is going on in Grand Rapids?

Watch this activist get arrested *mid-interview* for speaking out against U.S. action in Venezuela.

I’ve told this story multiple times but Bowie, MD was the first time I saw a fully thriving Black middle class. You had Black people shopping at Wegmans and strip malls. Federal employment offered a path to the middle class for Black people in PG County. DOGE basically wipes out that opportunity.
I’m telling you, everything this administration does is designed to completely destroy the pathways low income people have to reach the middle class

Do you ever think about how in sci fi, space forces often have navy ranks and traditions, but in real life it’s always army because they come from air forces? What do you think happened in the history of all these fictional space forces that made them turn into space navies?
u heard sharon, everyone post about their esoteric interests right fucking now. for the good of the community, we need to be hyperfixationmaxxing.
i think this site really needs to figure out how to grow the non-politics verticals (the baseball moment was a good thing!) because i suspect a lot of the bad clusters come out of the political clusters driving 95% of ENG-lang posts

"did you try to bribe the president of the united states by giving him your nobel peace prize so he will declare that you are in charge of venezuela after abducting its leader by military force" is just a thing that someone can be asked in an interview now and we all have to deal with that
Hannity: Did you at any point offered to give him the Nobel peace prize?

Machado: It hasn’t happened yet. We want to give it to him. Share it with him.

it's going Great as the Trump admin has to admit they made up a cartel

I’ve been meaning to write this up but the reason they’re destroying norms so fast is also the reason they’re so bad at it: they’re copying characters they saw on a screen. Stephen Miller isn’t Goebbels, he’s a guy who is trying to play the Goebbels role he’d spent years practicing in a mirror.
Like trying to drift a car on the street & being surprised when they hit a curb. These guys didn't put in the work, because the whole reason they're these guys is because they can't or won't put in the work
Right, there are these little moments where you can see them going “no rules! Arrest the enemies of the state” and then they get to the station and they’re like “but wait, we got nothing on this guy, we gotta let him go” like it’s Law and Order

parts of the law enforcement apparatus in this country, both federal and local, is behaving as if we are in an autocracy or a State of Exception is in effect, but they can't actually...do autocracy/SOE things, because of what I can only describe as institutional inertia
