my guy, you are in the legislative body specifically granted the power to authorize the president to conduct war. wdym you were disappointed???
Warner: "Nothing would lead to the absolute destruction of NATO more than US aggressive action against a longtime ally like Denmark"

Schumer: "I asked for assurances that they were not planning operations in other countries like Colombia and Cuba, and I was very very disappointed in their answer"

one of the many ways SF is very weird is that the legacy insider faction is the left-leaning group which is fighting a right-leaning insurgency against their hold on the city. basically no other place in the country works like that.
Californians who project their weird left-nimby anxieties on NYC are generally pretty annoying but the implication that *Kathy Hochul* is a left-NIMBY is one of the funniest things I’ve seen in a while

Thinking a lot about how Trump signifies a return to the GOP of the late 19th/early 20th, before the New Deal hegemony forced them to accept a lot of liberal democratic premises, *but* combined with the residual effects of absorbing the former Dixiecrats in the 60/70s

the problems with neoconservatism are 1) it never worked 2) sidelining the international rules based order to spread democracy, a goal which never had widespread buy in, fostered an overarching cyncism in foreign policy which facilitated the rise of trumpism
Neoconservative foreign policy was good, actually. And Trump just killed it dead.

By putting neocon means to colonialist ends and untethering them from democracy promotion, Trump has ushered America into an era of domination in which...

This is just Kleinism; if enough people hold a reprehensible belief (and if enough of them are important) you are, definitionally, not permitted to treat it as reprehensible.
i love how like the Reason crowd find this depressing despite the fact that even the Manhattan Institute polls finding that most young Republicans hold genuinely reprehensible beliefs
You gotta get those numbers up; those are rookie numbers in this racket

going to be super funny when the entire establishment goes to the mat for Goldman and he loses by 25 anyway
In a frankly bizarre interview with the New York Times, Dan Goldman says he's not ready to conclude that Israel has committed any war crimes in Gaza.

Not genocide, any war crimes at all.

There's a certain kind of person who grew up in racist late 20th century drug hysteria and they saw white people dying of OD more and they had to imagine a massive international criminal conspiracy to kill white Americans and not just "We handed everyone oxy for 10 years and then stopped"
BARTIROMO: With all due respect, I think the goal here is to stop the drug and human trafficking into America, and I don't think Saudi Arabia is sending fentanyl into America

RAND PAUL: Well, neither does Venezuela

not good that overnight the whole new right started talking like the athenians in the melian dialogue
right. and like it's not like they're hiding it now. all of the major pundits (knowles + walsh) basically think the takeaway from Iraq War was not that PNAC was right to want to build democracy, but a world that is explicitly built around turning America into an empire

explaining to the judge that we had to redraft the indictment because the organization we accused him of being a part of, which is a designated FTO, does not actually exist but this new indictment which accuses him of being in bed with FARC/ELN is actually totally serious and real.

this is still basically true a day later
its crazy we know nothing about this operation. no idea what the plan is going forward, no announcement of what forces participated or what was striked. not even really sure if there are still US forces on the ground or in the AO. i doubt we’ll be getting even a bad legal justification either
