Most of the derangement about Mamdani is for the obvious reasons but part of it is also that a surprising amount of people were committed to the Cuomo rehabilitation project because they hated the idea that anything could have consequences for men of the right class.

Labour secured a landslide majority where they could theoretically enact any policy they want, unopposed. They instead chose to try and appease the right-wing, including the paper this man is writing in. That has failed, so they're blaming an all-powerful left-wing that they systematically ejected.
And just so everyone's up-to-date on the transatlantic reactionary centrist ping-pong game, UK Labour are taking the Matt Yglesias 'Abundance' crowd's lamentations about 'the groups' and now claiming Starmer's Labour are failing because of a Deep State cabal run by NGOs and regulatory bodies.

Congress should stop this.

Also, if Trump wants to enjoy an imitation of the Arc de Triomphe done in a style and at a place congenial to him, he can visit the Arch of Triumph in Pyongyang, completed in 1982.

Trump says construction of the ‘Triumphal Arch’ to begin in ‘2 months’
The monument would be a centerpiece of the White House’s plans for America’s 250th birthday.

i basically think the popularist fabian tactics do not work with high salience issues like this which are never really going away. we either build a durable consensus around a liberal immigration policy framework or the right has a hammer to keep hitting us with
And I think liberals should stop taking the bait and ceding ground on immigration.

Immigration is good. Multiculturalism is good. Free trade is good. Stop being embarrassed to say so.

We're slipping into full-blown gutter racist pogrom politics and the reactions from most of the media/punditocracy/commentariat/elite/influencers/etc has tended from gleeful participation to "well, if that's what the people what it can't be that bad".

Seems suboptimal, to me.
One thing that makes me depressed is that we’re bringing back medieval blood libel for minority groups (Haitians and Somalis in particular) and where once normies would be shocked or ignorant, now they’re saying stuff like “perfidis Judaeis-cels be seething over Good Friday chads” bc of TikTok

if you follow military procurement at all you recognize that even getting main battle tank procurement autarky is very difficult. trying to get fighter jet autarky is next to impossible and in the modern context ~2 countries have managed it
also people don't really understand how munitions or fighter jets work when they say that israel could just replace this stuff overnight. not true and that's why israel was very worried about the UK cutting off just the replacement parts for their fighter jets.
