Also this was supposed to be the agreed to in conference language that was just gonna clear the whole Senate, then the whole House, and then go for signature, as a part of the CR deal
They're literally asking the House to pass a bill that *only* protects Senators in this way lol

The Senate has found a thing they don't like QI for: anyone investigating them for doing crimes (it explicitly waives any claim of QI lol)
Also this passed through regular order via approps, not any CR stuff, so Murray along with Heinrich and Ossoff should be the ones getting blasted for this

I am kind of sitting here mouth agape as I realize that the thing that really got eight Democrats to cave was a provision which provides backdoor criminal and civil immunity to them personally by making it functionally impossible to ever investigate the Senate

Heinrich is claiming ignorance and explicitly blasted Schumer (along with Thune), and Murray is doing her usual "WHAT-WHAT-WHAT" Mrs Broflovski bit
I'm not inclined entirely to let them off the hook (esp Murray), but I'll give Heinrich credit for explicitly saying Schumer helped Thune do it

read the actual bill text and this is quite literally a provision designed solely to impede civil and criminal investigations into United States Senators and their staff. www.appropriations.senate.gov/imo/media/do...

Glonzo is real
the entire premise as stated BY THE DEMS was to extend ACA subsidies. schumer HIMSELF said 51k people will DIE if they don't extend them. why people keep giving schumer et al the benefit of the doubt is beyond me. they do not care about you, they are not on the same side.

Glonzo truthers out in force over here
The Senate has rejected a plan from Sen. Tammy Baldwin D-WI to extend the expiring Obamacare health insurance subsidies for 1 year. Party line vote.

TRUMP: The ones who stayed, I'm sending them a $10,000 bonus
INGRAHAM: Where's that money coming from?
TRUMP: I don't know. I'll get it from someplace.

Especially now since political journos refuse to leave the nazi site, any dem pol basically can say whatever they want here without it getting crosswise with other messaging, at least off the app

Dem political comms people need to recognize that bsky is not real life and either just don't post on here (or anywhere), or tailor your message here appropriately, even if that contradicts what you're saying on CNN

Ah, continuing to argue for killing glonzo even though you just tacitly showed glonzo isn't real
1. We need to fight hard for a good ACA extension early in December and hold Republicans fiercely accountable if they betray everyone.

lol I did wonder what other shoe was going to drop besides the hemp thing in terms of GOPers sneaking stuff into a bill no one was going to read
Buried inside the deal to reopen government is a provision that would give Senators private right of action to sue for millions in damages over their phone records being analyzed by Jack Smith's team.

There are people right now saying the Dems shouldn't have bought off on a CR because NOW that they caved there's no way Mike will allow subsidy extensions through the House

While also telling me they needed to hold out for this impossible thing
I can’t make any sense out of it

Also, Travis, I know what it’s like to suddenly lose a pay check, to feel one’s financial safety evaporating.
But some perspective.
I’m in Chicago, first snowfall.
Nearby, there are prisoners in Broadview probably freezing to death tonight.
We each have our challenges, all are real.

huh whomst could've predicted
Maybe (hopefully) I'm missing something from internal Senate dem discussions (I doubt it) but I do not understand the theory of victory of shutting down over health care subsidies
Even the prominent left of center voices didn't want that (or at least not only that)

I knew the day would come when this place's userbase would succumb to a widespread glonzo bit that they didn't understand was glonzo and not reality, but I wasn't entirely expecting it to be on this
If they are not in fact going to do that, then maybe there wasn't quite as much leverage here for the shitlibs as you're making out
But yes, glonzo is absolutely real and the GOP is going to vote to kill him on their own accord, 100%

Nothing is stopping both houses from now passing bills to extend the subsidies, which if it is so self evidently politically apparent that they must, presumably they would do so post haste
There's even gonna be a vote for it in the Senate and everything
There's even gonna be a vote for it in the Senate and everything
The expanded subsidies are supported by a supermajority of Republican voters, including 57% of self-identified MAGA. More than half of all subsidy recipients live in red districts and/or red states. Congressional Republicans would have eventually caved to save their own asses in the midterms.
........and if they hadn't flinched, what's the mechanism by which those premiums still don't spike
"Republicans voted to (not) do a thing because they control the govt, then they refused to do the thing they already voted not to do, here's why that's Dems fault"

Senate Dems aren't stupid. They know full well the Republicans and especially Donald will never extend the enhanced ACA subsidies. So, by flinching, they're guaranteeing premiums will spike by 114% -- people will go broke and/or die. Blaming Republicans in midterm campaign ads won't prevent that.

If you legitimately think the ask was gettable, and this isn't further kayfabe, you've gotta go too because you've got even worse political instincts than schumer or the centrists
In response to this claim that the "strategy didn't work."
The people were on our side. We were building momentum to help save our democracy. We could have won - the premium increase notices were just starting.
And giving in now will embolden him. Things will likely get worse.

If they do full regular order on all approps (assuming that's even possible lol, I'd put it at 3:1 odds we roll into FY27 on a FY24 based CR) without recissions reform/control, then yeah I'll absolutely be yelling for Murray's and DeLauro's heads on a pike (more than I already have been)
probably little upside for democrats.
2. This is probably the first short term CR of many. This admin is entirely lawless and with an SJC generally unwilling to force it to follow the law regarding impounding funds then the only answer is for legislative to drip feed the admin and keep them coming

"A couple million people should just go without paychecks for however long it takes until either the Republican party decides it no longer hates the ACA or the 120th Congress is sworn" is not a viable or serious theory of victory, as more than a couple of us pointed out in Sept
Then why do the shutdown at all? What did it accomplish? The Democrats knew going into the shutdown that it would mean federal workers eat shit indefinitely - Republicans even cited it as a reason Democrats would break: and they were right!
Not that there's a bunch of us, but I think a contingent of feds on here have been incentivized to just block 50% of the users here tonight, because man "you should eat shit indefinitely for undetermined reasons so I can poast about The Revolution" is a taek I guess, but not one I want to see

I, a 15-year career federal employee, am responsible for ACA subsidies being taken away.
Not the tens of millions of people who voted to give Donald Trump's Republican Party control of the American government, no, they're blameless victims. It's my fault and I should suffer for it.
fuck this shit.

My one exception for my future jihad against GS's doing illegal shit is the ones who emailed their supervisor in advance to ask "hey boss I think this violates x USC ###, please advise before I take any further action," and then made sure to archive the response
