Chris Murphy

U.S. Senator from Connecticut.
I went on Fox News this morning to tell conservatives what is happening to their nation. ICE is out of control - teargassing schools, murdering American citizens, and obliterating the constitutional rights Republicans claim to care about. Every citizen should want this to stop.

On my way into the studio.

President Trump has made $4 billion by illegally trading access to the White House to get rich. He controls the Dept of Justice and the Congress so he won't be held accountable - until he doesn't control the Dept of Justice and Congress.
Trump’s Profiteering Hits $4 Billion
In August, I reported that the President and his family had made $3.4 billion by leveraging his position. After his first year back in office, the number has ballooned.

The arrests of Don Lemon and Georgia Fort underscore the gravity of this moment. This has never happened before in our history. We shouldn't pretend it's normal.

More reason for us to hold the line and demand a DHS budget that stops funding lawlessness.
January 30, 2026 at 7:46 PM
America does not want us to fund a lawless out of control ICE.

- No more roving patrols or profiling. ICE/CBP are not trained to do this. And it's wrong. Require warrants.
- No more secret police. Take off the masks. Show ID.
- And real accountability for murder and assault.

I stated the facts today about Trump's Venezuela policy. I told Secretary Rubio that the plan is insane, and, as a consequence, it isn't working - at all.
January 28, 2026 at 11:36 PM
Wow
January 28, 2026 at 11:34 PM
Important. There has not been a deescalation.

Excited to announce the American Mobilization Project's first new grantee of 2026! Protect Our Schools Kentucky is mobilizing parents, teachers, and community members to fight Trump's cuts to education and make sure public dollars go to public schools.
They want us to feel powerless, but we have real power.
AMP’s goal is to supercharge deep organizing and mobilize as many Americans as possible by investing in the state and local organizations already doing this work on the ground.

The attacks on Reps Frost and Omar show how Trump's supporters act in a world where Trump uses and excuses violence on a daily basis.

If officers face no consequences for killing a protester in cold blood, then the signal is sent: violence against Trump critics is condoned.
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Man tackled to ground after spraying unknown substance on Rep. Ilhan Omar at town hall in Minneapolis.
January 28, 2026 at 11:27 PM
Correct. Effective protest isn't spontaneous. It's planned and organized.

But I get it - your point is broader: free speech is illegitimate unless it's supportive of Trump.
January 28, 2026 at 11:24 PM
Two things happened last weekend.

1. A group of pro-Trump billionaires took control of TikTok's U.S. operations.

2. TikTok appeared to begin suppressing content about ICE's activity in Minneapolis and criticism of Trump.

Democrats are right to deny funding for DHS absent changes that stop this lawlessness and inhumanity. Changes that Americans are demanding.

Let's talk for a second about what has to change - immediately. And why it's so important that we demand these reforms.

They can’t defend this horror.
January 26, 2026 at 3:34 PM
I know it's hard to track all the threats to democracy out there right now, but this is at the top of the list.
January 26, 2026 at 1:40 AM
Two statements that are compatible.

a. I don't think concealed carry is a good policy.

b. I do not believe that someone carrying a gun in compliance with a state's gun laws gives federal law enforcement the right to murder them.
January 25, 2026 at 10:21 PM
when they say that everyone should have a right to carry a weapon in public they mean only loyal Republicans have a right to carry a weapon in public. if you don't agree them politically and you carry a weapon then that's justification for them to shoot you dead.
January 25, 2026 at 10:21 PM
It should freak the American people out that Trump, Noem and Bovino lie so enthusiastically. He wasn't "brandishing a weapon". He wasn't attending a "riot" or "interfering in a crime scene". He was an ICU nurse exercising his constitutional rights.

We saw what we saw.

Thune could easily pass the rest of the budget and have a stand alone debate and vote on the DHS budget. It's up to him if he wants to shut down multiple agencies.
January 25, 2026 at 10:20 PM
The party that has spent unlimited resources and energy getting states to pass laws to allow citizens to openly carry loaded weapons anywhere - now believes that exercising this right is permission for law enforcement to murder you.

Honestly, how dumb do they think we are?

I'm glad my friend Maxwell is okay.

But violence begets violence. The man who attacked him yelled "we are going to deport you and your kind" before punching Maxwell in the face.

There are consequences for the way Trump is normalizing and excusing violence.
Last night, I was assaulted by a man at Sundance Festival who told me that Trump was going to deport me before he punched me in the face. He was heard screaming racist remarks as he drunkenly ran off. The individual was arrested and I am okay.

Congress cannot fund a Department of Homeland Security that is unapologetically murdering Americans; running a "baby prison" in Texas for the purpose of traumatizing little kids; acting like the law and truth don't exist.

We swore an oath to uphold the law.
January 25, 2026 at 4:33 PM
It just get worse. Instead of administering CPR to a man who might still be alive, DHS officers were leering over the body, counting the bullet holes.
January 25, 2026 at 4:09 AM
We should not fund DHS without serious reform. We could return CBP to border. We could require warrants for immigration arrests. We could beef up training and require identification.

The list of possible reforms is long. What's unacceptable is the current lawless status quo.
January 25, 2026 at 2:07 AM
I will be on @cnn.com in a few minutes to talk about the effort by Democrats in the Senate to stop DHS’s lawlessness - in Minnesota and across the country.
