Bernie Sanders is probably the only person that could facilitate widespread primary challenges to incumbent Senators. he has a broad-based grassroots donor base, established clout, and nothing to lose since he's most likely in his last term
no no, on an interview with Tapper he suggested not only beating Schumer's picks but primary campaigns

one of the weirdest things that people believe on a website where the collective mood changes every thirty-six hours is that events completely unknown to 60% of the population, where 90% have the facts wrong, will have persistent effects eighteen months later

The difference is that they made a hell of a lot of federal workers miss paychecks and snap recipients worry about where their next meal was coming from. You can’t play with people‘s live like this without delivering anything.
The people mad today were equally mad six months ago when the same thing happened and then forgot it happened mostly. With that said I think the risk for Dems is that the rage persists in an inchoate way that can’t even really be cured, since no one remembers where it came from

Will we didn't forget about six months ago, that's why we weren't surprised they did it again!

Trump always gloats, and always thinks he knows how to deal with the Democrats, though. Events don't impact Trump's state of mind.

You're chasing your tail if you think you can make him believe he isn't right about something. Anything.

There's literally no sense in letting that drive you.
This….is why it’s a BIG fucking deal.

begging for someone to do an MN-Sen primary poll
I grew up thinking the bottom could fall out at any moment. Too many folks feel that way right now.

We need Senators that get it - and vote like they give a damn.

Woke: the Senate is in play with good candidates in 2026

Bespoke: many Red state Gov races could be in play than we currently think of because of midterm dynamics and the economy shitting itself

there's a moment in PARADISE LOST where Satan arrives in Eden and realizes Hell isn't a place; it's a thing he carries within him and it'll follow him wherever he goes. and i think about that when i see these awful rich men whose monstrous wealth has enriched them not at all

can definitely do better than Ben McAdams in a Harris +24 SLC district, it'd be another Ed Case situation with a guy way more centrist than his constituents

I still don't think this will be in any way damaging to Democrats outside the most engaged partisans but their utter failure to provide a theory of action because they were too panicked over air travel to pretend it was about SNAP is going to spawn several annoying zombie myths.
It's becoming clear that a lot of people thought that the extended ACA subsidies existed until the shutdown ended, and it was the decision of Senate Democrats to fold that allowed them to be defunded which is..........not actually true.

Real talk you’re seeing Utah Republican state legislators freak the fuck out realizing that if someone sues over the legislative maps they are probably getting slapped down and having to run on fair maps for the first time ever

the thing about us evangelicalism is at it’s core it’s antinomian
From the outside US evangelicalism is a very puzzling religious group because ostensibly they are very concerned with the moral teachings of a publicly accessible text but also they seem to have inferred completely the opposite lessons from that text than what everyone else thinks is the plain read.
so my town has been hosting an emergency food drive for snap recipients. the town, high school clubs, the Y, the churches (Episcopal, Presbyterians, Lutherans, Baptists, Unitarians, and the Catholics) & the synagogue, are involved.

You know who isn't participating? the fucking evangelicals.

Looking at the guys, for however briefly you see them in the video, and the fact that they were immediately all over Hasan the moment he pulled out a Mao meme, tells me that these were not the regular people’s (armed) police, but the MSS

i don't think anyone on here adequately understands how crazy this is, coming from *Val Hoyle*
she showed up at vigil in CG for the abducted families, sounded genuinely angry, and actually acknowledged how her power protects her by comparison with everyone else. she offered her office to local organizations as a protected space

this is precisely it. it's exactly why @repvalhoyle.bsky.social saying what she did tonight about the dangers we are all in felt actually meaningful
seems to me that those democrats inclined not to fight perceive themselves as living through a somewhat ordinary cycle of presidential overreach and backlash and not something much more significant and dangerous

i think a lot of us if plucked off the street and sworn in as a senator would do a modestly better job than a lot of our incumbents
all of these people live in a comfortable room-temperature fog of steakhouse dinners, galas held in their honor, and important decisions prechewed for them and fed to them by adoring but interchangable young people selected to be as inoffensive to them as possible by their chiefs of staff.
