I call complete and utter bullshit on this obvious cynical story about Talarico. Jasmine Crockett has run a terrible campaign and Collin Allred's campaign was promising to be just as terrible.

Nothing about Talarico suggests he would've said Allred was a "mediocre Black man". GTFOH
Consider it explained.

And while I like both Jasmine Crockett and James Talarico, I have to say...this whole thing reeks of a desperate smear attack against Talarico. It doesn't make Crockett's campaign look good.

literally I was at a DFL precinct caucus this evening and we unanimously approved a resolution to repeal Minnesota's anti-BDS law

there's a short, short list of people who will be elected to federal office this fall that could actually pull off a presidential run. maybe they wouldn't win but it would be a credible attempt

Mike Gianaris is so fascinating because he's a Hochul ally, of sorts, but he also doesn't have a problem backing DSAers
Astoria and Long Island City, you have less than three hours left to vote!

i think context is important, like the fact Democrats cannot and should not promise something they cannot deliver on for 4 more years
74% of Democrats support abolishing ICE, with 53% *strongly* supporting it, according to YouGov polling from last month.

Weak calls for "reform" are coming from *elected* Democrats like Chuck, not the average Democratic voter.
Democrats want commonsense reform for ICE:

End the roving patrols and racial profiling.

Take accountability and abide by the same rules as local police.

Masks need to come off, body cameras need to stay on—no secret police in the United States of America.

Martinez ends her testimony with this:

This is such a perfect way to put it: we do not need throw our past away entirely as tarnished or pretend it never happened, but can embrace those ideals and try to substantiate them in the present.

We have done it before and will do it again. Democracy is a never ending project!
My favorite part in the Ken Burns American Revolution series is right at the end when one of the historians says "it's obvious that Thomas Jefferson did not believe that all men are created. But I do"

pretty much the exact reverse from 2017 where the backlash was very elite driven, institutions rushing to contain Trump, sometimes failing, sometimes not
one thing the trump era has made clear, i think, is that the american people themselves are far more committed to the values of our founding documents than our elites

man, this really calcified to me why these labels are so frustrating, and i've increasingly refused to ID as a 'leftist', despite holding nominally leftist positions
the asymmetry is wild, honestly. `lib` is inclusive and tacitly accepts that many of its nominal members hate its leaders and disagree with many of its tactics. `leftist` requires you to refrain from criticizing a wide range of things, or you aren't one

my objection to black bloc and, in fact, the entire associated set of tactics is that they don't seem to work, which i guess makes me a lib by bluesky left/liberal divisions

amusingly this does not work the other way; i am not a leftist because i think nearly every democratic institution is rotten

I mean, part of the problem is that those who self-identify as 'libs' understand it's a big tent and hate some of the leaders. But the leftist straw man of 'libs' is that we all love chuck schumer

Temperature Check from Caucusing:

Participation is WAY tf up.

Angie Craig is cooked in this city for that Pro ICE vote.

Klob got half the votes in a straw poll where she was the only candidate.

People HATE ICE. I had to ask a neighbor to quit asking every candidate mid speech to arrest ICE.

yeah, libs are fucking crazy about guns, and it shows
I do actually want to write something about firearms, particularly given the number of people - most of who should know better - talking about how “you need to get a gun to protect yourself from what’s coming” (wow, militias), but I’m not really in the mood rn, particularly not on my lunch break

would be great if more states *had* precinct caucuses like this, honestly
DFL precinct caucus highlights:
I got elected as a delegate to the organizing unit convention by simply being willing to do it.
The precinct chair has the job simply because he's the only one willing to do it.
It's unreal how easy it is to have suction in local party politics. Just have to show up

Hello. I’m a former firefighter. If you make me come put out your protest dumpster fire, you force me to work in visible opposition to a movement I’m aligned with.

Don’t make me do that please. Just stick to whistles and signs and cameras.

Thank you
