I am going to be honest that if you aren’t sure whether or not it would be good if the fascists kill a prominent anti-fascist activist with whom you have developed an inscrutable parasocial antagonism, I really doubt the sincerity of your commitment to leftism or anti-fascism

it's very funny in hindsight that batman forever was a springboard for seal and not the other way around (and also that kiss from a rose technically debuted in the neverending story 3)
Whats this film about.... batman? Cool let's get that song where seal sings this devastating yearnful poetic ballad with all these baroque elements in the production.

Two days ago it was Elissa Slotkin. Last week it was Jerome Powell. Before that, Mark Kelly. Weaponizing the justice system against your opponents is an authoritarian tactic.

The only person not being investigated for the shooting of Renee Good is the federal agent who shot her.
Breaking news: The Justice Department has issued subpoenas for Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz and Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey as part of an investigation alleging that they are impeding federal law enforcement officers’ abilities to do their jobs in the state.

see it's not lying if democrats aren't "political opponents" but "domestic terrorists"
Donald Trump in his inauguration address a year ago:
"The vicious, violent, and unfair weaponization of the Justice Department and our government will end…Never again will the immense power of the state be weaponized to persecute political opponents."
Breaking: Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz and Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey are being investigated by the Trump DOJ for allegedly obstructing law enforcement activities, two U.S. officials told WCCO.

It's unclear how Walz and Frey allegedly obstructed law enforcement or what they were allegedly obstructing.

I think Walz is a good guy who genuinely loves his family and community and country. That said, this "please stop punching us Mr. Bully we're better than this" is terrible political instincts. I understand wanting to minimize chaos, but there are ways to do it other than moralizing to the immoral.

Miller has no more legal protections than anyone else. He's just an adviser. No reason to not make his life hell.
.@PabloReports: Stephen Miller seems to be operating sort of as a shadow president at this point. Is there any legal liability he could face at the end of this presidency?

Ryan: There’s going to be legal—and I think criminal—liability for multiple members.. certainly Stephen Miller.

cynicism is basically orthogonal to accurate knowledge, in part because it's such a tempting shortcut around actually learning anything
meta-discursive comment: the incentives of social media where making an incorrect naive prediction is seen as much more embarrassing than making an incorrect cynical one are very bad.

I get that high-anxiety folks are trying to game out a bad scenario for the midterms but think: whatever tools you believe the admin has to alter the vote could have already been used last year and Rs got uniformly smoked. What makes you think they'll be able to manipulate even bigger elections?
set aside whether it is legal or not. what do you think an executive order is, and what do you think the relationship of the president is to a governor or state secretary of state is? do you think the president is their boss?
I think my question is, if he issues an executive order cancelling the election, even if it isn't legal, if a bucketful of states comply on some level, what impact would that have on the overall election. Can it theoretically just be sandbagged by a handful of intransigent states?

the question to ask about this is, okay, he wants to cancel the midterms. how does he get the VA state board of elections to cancel the midterms? how does he get the georgia board of elections to do it? how does he convince republican house members to quit their jobs and give up their paychecks?
Trump says a lot of deranged shit, but, per this Reuters article — and the threats of invoking the Insurrection Act in Minnesota this morning — he is very clearly exploring how to cancel the midterms.

genuine question, have most outlets already replaced their journalists with a monkey trained on ChatGPT because why are they so sloppy on basic things like "take 2 minutes to confirm if Musk is bullshitting"
X is claiming it’s restricted the ability to generate explicit deepfakes with Grok, and plenty of media outlets are parroting it without checking.

But it’s still easy to get Grok to generate the very same “undressing” photos causing this scandal in the first place.
X claims it has stopped Grok from undressing people, but of course it hasn’t
It’s still easy to get Grok to edit photographs of real people into sexualized poses, despite X’s updated restrictions.

My biggest question mark for when It Happens is how congressional Rs will act without Trump to bully them. I don't expect them to fear President Vance but maybe it's all just an excuse to be cowards anyway and they'll still be little bitches when called upon.
This resolution had bipartisan support last week.

Then the President did what he always does — make threats and bully.

Republicans ran scared. And now the bill is dead. Shameful.

That is what happened here. All so this President can go to war whenever he feels like it.
