Honestly concerned that nobody will even be talking about this incident in 2028 bc Vance will have tried to justify even worse tragedies than this. Not that any of that will be in his favor.

Trump wanted to be McKinley 2.0 and there's a decent chance he'll get his wish
January 8, 2026 at 7:33 AM
in a just world donald trump would meet the same fate as ramsey bolton. iykyk.
Trump: "I have just viewed the clip of the event which took place in Minneapolis. It is a horrible thing to watch. The woman screaming was, obviously, a professional agitator, and the woman driving the car was very disorderly, obstructing and resisting ... "
January 8, 2026 at 7:26 AM
the absolute goddamn gall of these shitstains after they have passed laws allowing motorists to kill protesters with almost no consequences
Noem: "People need to stop using their vehicles as weapons ... it's clear that it's being coordinated. People are being trained"
January 8, 2026 at 6:15 AM
Trump wants violence enough to justify a crackdown. There's a lot of space between that and a show. We cannot hope to best evil if we're unwilling to scream its name and force it into the spotlight.
Trump wants a show. Don’t give it to him.

I am halfway thru season 6 of Game of Thrones bc I really just need to know whether I'm normal enough to be disappointed by the ending like everyone else or if I'm going to find some way to be annoying.

The Republican party is brimming with ivy league grads and they're all racing to wreck this country, I think that's a cue
We should appoint more people from state universities and less Ivy League shits

Conservatives love to say public education sucks but it increasingly seems like they just suck at public education.

who could forget sophie's classic line: "Picture it: Sicily, 1922. The gundams landed on the beach; the air smelled like electric death."
Been rewatching Golden Girls. Grew up with the dub, it's crazy how different the sub is.

Not to detract from the gag here but a notable asymmetry that just occurred to me is that left-of-center folks create comedy around trump that is (relatively) accessible, while RW "humor" around democrats tends to be very insular. Which might paradoxically feed the general vibe that Trump is funny.
when the fajitas come out sizzlin

Republicans want to have fights; Democrats want to have friends. Posting about bipartisanship is about affirming friendships; posting in riddles is about avoiding the conflict that could upend friendships. Republicans never do these things bc friendship is not their priority.
One of the things you can’t unsee after people point it out is that democrats love to post in riddles! Just come out and say that Mike Johnson is an insurrectionist who hates America (and for good measure that he’s also a weird little freak who’s obsessed with his son’s porn habits)
Why won’t Speaker Johnson display this plaque thanking law enforcement for their heroic efforts to protect our Democracy on January 6?

the next chess move here is for europeans to ask "why do you train your cops to kill so liberally" bc none of the answers really reflect well on us
never gets old seeing europeans tell americans to riot and americans telling europeans that our cops shoot to kill
January 7, 2026 at 6:23 AM
to get us started on the right foot: I don't think fat pikachu is actually "wild", it's a domestic pikachu that has been lovingly overfed and then escaped its home
looking forward to very normal discourse about this

fellas, before you dump your gf because you just need to see a huge ass, first try checking out the one in your mirror

this is one of the hardest, but also most important, forms of enculturation you have to unlearn to reach contentment. you cannot grow or love properly if you cannot discern your actual failures from mere shifts in life's tide.
Wish I could internalize this

not sure of the temperature of this take but I do think our political malaise is downstream of our numbness to gun violence. we have largely resigned ourselves to children being killed in schools and it's hard to imagine any political topic being more emotionally salient than dead kids.
I don't know how to describe it, but there's this profound brokenness in the American body politic where nobody can take the implications of anything seriously. People keep saying things that should be existential threats to the political system, and then everyone just keeps going on as normal.
fuck outta here

wait what do you mean "another"
January 6, 2026 at 11:28 PM
still annoyed by indoctrination theory specifically because ME3 itself offered a reasonable framework for it (the forced starchild dreams, reapers always trying to wear you down psychologically, the surrealist vibe of the ending) but they just couldn't commit to the bit.

does anyone have recs for a reliable and reasonably affordable web host, mainly for hosting a couple of wordpress-built sites? i've been with a company for a long time that keeps changing ownership and the service quality kinda sucks.

reading a 2026 economic outlook and curious what aspects of this people would agree/disagree with? expectations seem pretty safe: stock market go up, consumer sentiment go down, tariffs cap growth, AI boom continues (albeit slower), labor market teeters on knife edge www.schwab.com/learn/story/...

somehow it seems incredibly fitting to make Macaulay Culkin the ghost of America's future
Not only do we get Macaulay Culkin in Fallout but they gave him the coldest out of context line.
January 6, 2026 at 10:14 PM
The insurrectionists couldn't make it to the memorial unfortunately bc DHS had already assigned them to terrorize American cities
January 6ers pardoned by Trump said they'd show up at the Capitol today in the hundreds and march towards the Capitol. But only about a dozen showed. Now they're just wandering around in the cold.
