So what is (DVTL) Double Victory?

It is my world-building and alternative history project, intended to culminate in a series of full-length novels!

TLDR: The Final Countdown with zoomers, crank to 11, and mix in heaping doses of Matterhorn, Red Storm Rising, and the Death of Stalin.

i feel like the story of this moment is that tail risks are real risks and its best to spend upfront to reduce them, but no one really wants to do that
Just to build on this, I don’t think we are hurdling towards a crisis in the near term, the US has a decade (if not *much* more) fiscal space available to it, but I also don’t think that $77/2wks is a particularly high price for people to pay to future-proof the USD’s exorbitant privilege
Some people are responding to this with "actually we can keep borrowing at high levels with no adverse consequences because we've been doing so forever," but I think they are missing 1. how high the levels have gotten & 2. how difficult that makes it to deal with a real economic emergency these days

So, of these four options, we have:
1. Economic collapse
2. financial engineering (that probably won’t work, and even if it does still wouldn’t be great)
3. Eliminate at least part of the American welfare state
4. Increase the average families taxes by $77 every two weeks ($5.50 a day).

hard choice

2 party systems are bad but it’s not great that people think that a multiparty system would be “there will be a boutique party that agrees with you on most issues” rather than “coalition management becomes more explicit between a left and right wing coalition”

thats a lot of missile
USAF MQ-9A Reapers are Carrying Up to Ten AGM-114 Hellfire Missiles in the Caribbean

At least nine MQ-9s are deployed to Puerto Rico’s Rafael Hernández Airport, each carrying between six and ten AGM-114 Hellfire missiles.

The Niimiipuu patches up battle damage after the battle with the Romulan warbirds. There's still some floaty-ness to one of the characters walk cycle that I need to fix, and I still need to tweak some of the workbee animation, as well as adding welding animations to the hull plate repairs.

This is one of my favorite paintings, from any painter, ever.

Not only is she crushing Mein Kampf, but the arc of her rivet gun's cable also evokes a serpent being crushed under her heel - even while the rivet gun herself is laid on her apron like Christ on the lap of the Virgin Mary.
I didn’t know until now that in the original Rosie the Riveter painting, she is crushing a copy of Mein Kampf under her foot. Happy feast of the Blessed Virgin Mary, remembering all the women who crush the serpents of Satan under their heel.

before i left was talking to a coworker directly managed by a GOOG VP about the Issues and she told me that it was like being managed by a Dark Souls boss: couldn't get anything out of him other than incoherent and mournful sentence fragments about why he was obliged to do something plainly evil.

oh my god i forgot they actually used the finger chili lady as an example of a democrat who turned on the party and would be voting for trump
i think about how the NYT is so committed to loading the deck for republicans in their interviews of "normal" people that they quoted the lady who lied about finding a severed finger her in wendy's chili as an anti-harris voice
They did include people who opposed Trump FWIW, including a Trump 2024 voter, but 6 of the 11 people featured outright supported or defended Trump.

I certainly don’t recall any samples of the sort when Biden was an unpopular president!

Trump’s approval is under 40% so naturally the New York Times found a whole bunch of people that support or defend what he’s doing, including a Kamala 2024 voter who regrets his vote lmao

Still mind-blowing that a top admin official was revealed to have taken $50,000 in cash in a paper bag from people looking for government favors, the reaction of the administration was "Whatever losers, this is how it works now" and bigshot news media said "If you say so, we'll forget about it"
Border czar Tom Homan didn't receive a normal background check for his role while his bribery probe was still ongoing:

Justice officials felt sure Homan would not be able to obtain a security clearance based on the evidence gathered. It remains unclear how Homan was eventually granted clearance.

President-elect Trump initially balked at submitting names of likely nominees to the FBI for background checks, a basic step intended to flag possible financial conflicts or ethical problems.
