When Oregon sends its Republicans to Washington DC, we're not sending our best...they're sexual assaulters, sexual harassers, and some, I assume, are good people.
Not one but two sex scandals at Trump’s Labor Dept - one involving the Labor Secty herself AND a second one involving her husband. Wow.

Governments telling professors and students what they’re not allowed to talk and think about. Nakedly authoritarian and also, should work great. There are few things young people respond to more obediently than having politicians tell them what they’re allowed to think about. s/
Yesterday, those who teach Intro to Sociology at Florida colleges (as opposed to universities) received a ready-made curriculum from the state and were ordered to teach it.

Yes, you read that correctly. The *state* is enforcing a curriculum on college profs, complete w/ the following restrictions:

A new paper shows that less than 2 months of exposure to Twitter’s algorithmic feed significantly shifts people’s political views to the right.

Moving from chronological feed to the algorithmic feed also increases engagement.

This is one of the most concerning papers I’ve read in awhile.

Remember Trump’s past talk about abolishing the income tax and replacing it with tariff income? It sounds outlandish, but it’s rooted in a longstanding effort on the US right to replace progressive taxation with regressive taxation, while starving the parts of the government that help the non-rich.
1. The president is burning up the American middle class with the largest tax increase since the early 1990s, which itself is snowballing the price of everything from coffee to clothes to carpets to car parts.

Yet this isn’t a major, ongoing, attention-grabbing story.

In 1976 there was a progressive organization (the Peoples Bicentennial Commission) that organized events across the country organized around exactly this theme. They curated a book of quotes from the founding generation advancing this exact idea.
i need to admit something. the more i think about how many of our problems are downstream of a very small number of ppl and organizations hoarding all the wealth and power, the less interested i am in discussions of american democracy that prefer to focus on anything else.

NEW: One year ago, we caught a peek of MAGA authoritarianism when men roughly dragged a woman named Teresa out of an Idaho town hall.

This is the story behind that viral video and the radicalization of the community where it happened.

This is the kind of thing white supremacists have been doing to Emmett Till’s memorial for decades.

It’s wild to see them do this to a white woman who the entire world saw extrajudicially murdered.
Someone doused Renee Good’s Minneapolis memorial and a nearby pile of wood with gasoline and started a fire at about 9 p.m. Tuesday.

Damage was minimal but police are investigating.

The thing all you wokesters won't understand is that Bret here is a man of SCIENCE and what he's saying here is just SCIENCE and if you don't understand it then that's a you problem, not a Bret problem because, again, he is a brave fighter manning the barricades of SCIENCE against the woke mob.
If you want to get rid of some incriminating documents you don't want anyone to see, the best course of action is to hide them on the top floors of the most famous twin towers in the world and hit them with two hijacked passenger planes.

Ho-lee Shit. This is phenomenally good news. Department of Education rolls back— for now— its attempts to destroy Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility initiatives. Keep an eye on them, of course, and watch for the hidden knife, always, but for now: Fantastic news.
BREAKING: The Department of Education has ended its directive that attempted to restrict diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts in schools nationwide.

This is a victory for academic freedom and education equity.

The mendacity of these right wing “originalists” knows no bounds. Washington was talking about equipping the US military to provide for the common defense, not the arming of individual citizens so they could shoot each other down in the streets.
