I know this is an obvious and old point, but it still shocks me how quickly the culture of the GOP has come to defined by the absurd personality type of the "toad-licking, ass kissing alpha." Amazing that they've built an audience that finds such deportment appealing, rather than disqualifying.

Mlot-Mroz even had a "Katie Daviscourt" moment when he attended a Poor Peoples' march and was reportedly attacked by civil rights protesters. This "vicious attack by the radical left" made national news...the only problem was, it was all a lie intended to discredit the civil rights movement.
When the group arrived in Boston, McMillan relates, the march's first trouble erupted. While in Roxbury, & Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC) official was addressing the marchers and a crowd of Negroes, when self - styled Polish Freedom Fighter Josef Mlot - Mroz, who had opposed the march since it left Brunswick, grabbed the microphone from the hand of the speaker. "Martin Luther King was & Communist," he shouted to the predominantly Negro audience, in reference to the slain civil rights leader. A negro man, not & marcher, promptly knocked Mlot - Mroz to the pavement, McMillan said. TWO POOR MARCH mar- shals rescued Mlot - Mroz, and took him inside a building, where they told him to remain for his own protection. But moments later he dashed back to the street, again to oppose the aims of the march. This time, McMillan said, within 10 feet of him, Mlot - Mroz told the marchers he'd been hired by the John Birch Society to expose the march. The same Negro man knocked him down again, and when Miot - Mroz got up, slashed him on the side with & small knife. McMillan said marchers took Mot - Mroz to s hospital, where he required two stitches and was released. "The Boston newspapers made it sound as though one of us had stabbed him, without provocation," McMillan said.

Here's the tl;dr thesis of that piece on Mlot-Mroz. Like Candace or Jack Posobiec, Mlot-Mroz's goal was to inject the fascistic "Protocols of the Elders of Zion" interpretation of modern politics into the US mainstream by rebranding it as "Patriotic, Christian anti-communism."

This fascistic vision, however, was a complete rejection of the dominant, starting premise of post-WWIl American political culture-that the nation was a secular, multi-racial democracy defined by its commitment to religious and ethnic pluralism. Anyone advocating for that sort of America, Mlot-Mroz argued, was really just advocating for Communism. These fascists offered their fellow Americans a choice between strawberry ice cream and cyanide, and their primary goal was to get the press to talk about the situation as if it was a choice between strawberry ice cream and mint chocolate chip. "Some people say the best way to fight communism is to create a just society for all in which prosperity is widely shared, other people say we should fight communism by eliminating the Jews, sending Black people back to Africa, and abolishing the federal income tax and the federal reserve...ah America, a land of contrasts." Although the fascists knew their political cyanide in its most undiluted form appealed to only a small handful of their fellow Americans, the more watered down, "Christian Patriot" version of it was far more likely to meet with approving (or just neutral) coverage in the press and would thus get a less hostile response from the readers these fascists sought to reach and radicalize with their message.

Here's a recapitulation of the basic argument Candace makes in that video. This was written in the late 1960s by a violent neo-Nazi named Josef Mlot-Mroz...a working class immigrant whose Nazi activities were secretly financed by a wealthy, blue blooded, Harvard-trained lawyer.
A bunch of evil, conniving Jews are promoting anything and everything they can that would destroy all the many traits that make White Men big and important. They promote bad grooming, poor dress, bad manners, filthy speech,moral and intellectual chaos. Their weapons are pornogra-phy, drugs, psychedelic music, devil worship, and the occult Hollywood films and psychopathic comic books.

I use FB to see what Oregon conservatives are saying, so FB thinks I'm a middle-aged white conservative. Over the past few weeks the algorithm has aggressively served me a non-stop barrage of straight up white nationalist and Nazi shit like this. I follow none of these accounts.

I'm a few chapters into @lkatfield.bsky.social's great new book on MAGA intellectuals and I thought the close of her introductory chapter made a very important point about the dangers of talking about MAGA as it it is an intellectual desert. It's more like a refulgent swamp of shitty, toxic ideas.
I have been writing about New Right intellectuals since 2019. The most common response I get when I mention this to liberals is something along the lines of "Trumpy intellectuals? Now that's an oxymo-ron!" or "Hahaha, I think you mean dumb fascists!" While the impulse is understandable, it's also mistaken and counterproductive. Many on the left assume that the only serious reason to support the GOP has to do with finance and tax returns, and that right-wing voters are racists. But people's motives are mixed, and America's reactionary intellectuals are armed with more than greed and preju-dice. They also have reasons and arguments that they appear to care about, whole epochs and libraries full, ready-to-hand. What the writer Matthew Rose says about the radical right is true of the New Right, too: Almost everything written about the "alternative right" has been wrong in one respect. The alt-right is not stupid; it is deep. Its ideas are not ridiculous; they are serious. To appreciate this fact, one needs to inquire beyond its presence on social media, where its obnoxious use of insult, obscenity, and racism has earned it a reputation for moral idiocy. The reputation is deserved, but do not be deceived. Behind its online tantrums and personal attacks are arguments of seductive power.* The New Right's questions, ideas, and arguments may not be of the sort to convince the average New York Times subscriber, but they are eftec-tive in their contexts, and it's not like they are easy to refute. Education and specialization being what they are today, the people I focus on in this book know more than your average JD or political science PhD about early American political history and about the history of the so-called West, and of course many of them have other specialties and areas of expertise besides. I am generally not an admirer of the people I write about here, but it would be foolish to deny that they are smart and INTRODUCING THE MAGA NEW RIGHT 25 well-informed in their own way. It's obviously possible to be highly knowledgeable and to have terrible judgment or dangerous politics. To presume otherwise— to believe that there is nothing to learn from these thinkers and no compelling noneconomic reasons to support something like Trumpism-is naive and dangerous. It misunderstands and fetishizes intelligence, by presuming that real brains never chase after raw power. It fails to see the possibility and power of genuine intellectual fanaticism—and the allure of people who have strong convictions backed by strong arguments. And it assumes a deep sameness about one's fellow citizens and so refuses to contend with real, protracted ideological disagreement and conflict. In other words, it refuses to reckon with what might be the greatest challenge posed by political life: the fact that people really do think differently and disagree, about just about everything, and especially about the most important things, like the meaning of life, God, and the soul, and what is good. Above all else, the naive view overestimates liberalism's immediate appeal and underestimates liberalism's fragility. Growing right-wing extremism has not emerged in a vacuum but in many instances is a re-sponse, however misguided, to real problems, and to the real vulnerabilities of liberal democracy. It reflects some of the actual failures of modern liberal politics and economics, of modern liberal culture, and of the corporate neoliberal academy. One of the major advantages of spending time with the New Right is that it allows us to see these challenges more clearly, and to think through future possibilities for a pluralistic liberal order more deeply. And with some urgency.
