1/ ProPublica collected handwritten letters in mid-January from children held at the Dilley Immigration Processing Center, the same facility where 5-year-old Liam Conejo Ramos was taken.

Hundreds of kids are still detained.

We’ll let the children’s words speak for themselves. 🧵

The key takeaway is that straight-up ballot box stuffing is the *last* form of election rigging. Most despots work their way through other methods. Gerrymandering; voter intimidation; using corruption to get a financial bonus to use to bribe; controlling the media; hobbling opposition parties, etc

This just shows a fundamental misunderstanding of how to do news. Data helps, but data doesn’t tell a reporter to spend a years-long investigation into child labor or an editor to place staff in a country on the brink of war. What exactly does Bezos think WaPo’s “journalistic mission” is?
Jeff Bezos' statement, his first since last week's layoffs: "The Post has an essential journalistic mission and an extraordinary opportunity. Each and every day our readers give us a roadmap to success. The data tells us what is valuable and where to focus."

One of the richest men in the world fired them from the paper and didn’t even pay to ensure they got home.

🚨NEW: A federal judge out of Oregon has issued a sweeping rebuke of the DOJ’s nationwide push to seize state voter rolls.

The opinion released Thursday concluded that the department can no longer be presumed to be acting in good faith and warned that its conduct threatens voters and states’ rights.
Federal judge rules DOJ can ‘no longer’ be trusted in voter roll crusade
The judge pointed to a letter from Bondi to Minnesota that tied federal immigration enforcement to demands for voter data as the smoking gun.

This moment in time will leave unfathomably deep scars for Twin Cities children.

My son's 5th grade class can no longer play on their playground during recess, because the school knows that a large number of those kids could get snatched at any time. Fully "legal" children.
They see school patrols walking to keep their friends from being kidnapped. They see teachers linking arms to guard the doors. They see a federal government who is basically telling them to drop dead. The kids of Minneapolis and St Paul are traumatized.
The kids are suffering. There's no way to shield them from what's happening here. Everyone is affected. They hear about families in hiding. They read "ICE kidnapped someone here" and "Fuck ICE" when we're in the car. They see us shopping for others. They hear the whistles. They are afraid.

Cops were frequently getting caught planting drugs in 2017 because body cameras were new and many of them didn't understand how the technology worked.

When cops hit "record" it saved the 30 seconds from *before* they hit the button. Eventually, they figured it out.

For those looking at Tom Homan's offer to MN sheriffs -- it's called a Basic Ordering Agreement. In essence, to skirt state law, DHS pays $50 in exchange for sheriffs to hold people 48 hours past their release date. It's not really a contract; it's like a warehousing agreement for bodies.
