Hello to the new followers and folks here. I'm a tech reporter for the NYT. It's going to be an interesting time to report on tech, and more specifically Elon Musk as he extends his power into the White House.

If you work or have worked for him and want to reach me, hit me up on Signal at rmac.18.
Super Bowl halftime producer: Now that you’ve signed your extensive NDA, you are ready for your incredible role in our show.

Me: I can’t wait. I’ve danced to Bad Bunny my whole life.

Producer: Great, you’re gonna be grass

Me: What

Director: Shut up nerd and put the grass suit on

My favorite Super Bowl memory is still when Elon Musk was at the 2023 game in Arizona and panicked about his Eagles tweet getting less engagement than Joe Biden's. He then flew immediately to Twitter's San Francisco office to start emergency meetings to fix the site's algorithm.

In 2016, when Post reporter Jason Rezaian was freed after spending 1.5 years in Iranian prison, Jeff Bezos personally flew him back on his private plane. Bezos used it as a photo op.

Now, Bezos is leaving people he laid off overseas in a lurch.

We have launched a new fundraiser to support The Washington Post's courageous international employees and local staff who were laid off, who are not eligible for Guild protections, and who face additional logistical challenges and security risks.

“expired dicks”
At Whipple where expired dicks are being thrown at ICE vehicles and those believed to be agitators. The area has been a place of protest since thousands of federal agents arrived in the city.

This just shows a fundamental misunderstanding of how to do news. Data helps, but data doesn’t tell a reporter to spend a years-long investigation into child labor or an editor to place staff in a country on the brink of war. What exactly does Bezos think WaPo’s “journalistic mission” is?
Jeff Bezos' statement, his first since last week's layoffs: "The Post has an essential journalistic mission and an extraordinary opportunity. Each and every day our readers give us a roadmap to success. The data tells us what is valuable and where to focus."

Martin, an 18-year-old citizen and soccer player, traveled with his Madison-area team to Minneapolis for a Futsal tournament (which my kid's team was going to play in, then opted out). While there, ICE stopped Martin and took his mom, who has been detained since.

Where Do the Journalists Go Now?
As media titans self-combust, what does that mean for reporters, their sources and the news we desperately need?

After files circulated showing he had in-depth comms w/ Jeffrey Epstein, news broke that Kimbal Musk recently stepped down from the Burning Man board. Thus far, he has not issued any statement.

Musk still sits on the Tesla board. I've asked the co if he'll continue to serve.

As real journalists from The Washington Post, the AP and elsewhere are getting laid off, pink-slime news sites are stepping in to fill the void.

In the past year, we found a news-appearing network called Metric Media filed more than nine thousand Freedom of Information Act requests across all fifty states.

New: we dug into Epstein’s dealmaking in Silicon Valley. He used his connections with tech’s elite to get into hot startup deals, some of which paid off handsomely (coinbase) and others that did not (jawbone).

gonna have a stroke thinking of epstein waiting 2 hours in line in the cold only to be turned away by the tattoo faced bouncer because his german sucked
not that time in 2013 when someone strongly recommended Epstein go to Berghain…

While reporting this, I had something happen that's never happened. A comms rep for one of the co's disputed my reporting and said what I was telling them was untrue because it was not in Grok, xAI's chatbot.

I was looking directly at the files. And this person was using AI to challenge the truth.
Epstein had many known connections to Silicon Valley CEOs, but less known was how he made money from those relationships.

We did a deep dive into how he got dealflow in Silicon Valley, giving him shots to invest in Coinbase, Palantir, SpaceX and other companies.

Going thru the Epstein files, and here is Jeffrey Epstein talking with his PR person, Masha Drokova (now Bucher), about how Jeff Bezos is "smart, fun and visionary." Then Drokova says she isn't sure if Bezos is as special as Epstein.
February 5, 2026 at 1:52 AM
That Jeff Bezos's Amazon gave Brett Ratner, someone photographed with Jeffrey Epstein and in the Epstein Files, $75 million to make a doc about Melania Trump, while he chooses to destroy The Washington Post, says about all you need to know.
