Everything you’re hearing from the Trump administration is a lie. Today was one of the most active days in Northeast since the entire Operation Metro Surge began.

Nothing is changing on the ground in Minneapolis, no matter what headlines Trump and Homan try to create.

The number of women I know personally who have been stalked and threatened online and literally nothing happened because it was first amendment or they were public figures or it wasn’t action—and they send 20 ICE agents to kick through this guys door. What babies.

Man arrested in immigration raid charged with cyberstalking
Kyle Wagner, 37, was arrested by federal immigration agents who broke into a south Minneapolis apartment building early Thursday. He faces cyberstalking charges that federal officials widely touted.

Because it’s never been about protecting children, it’s about controlling them so they don’t grow up to be free. If it was about protecting children we would fully fund schools and PBS and universal healthcare and clean water and clean air.
It’s amazing/infuriating to me that GOP will pass a raft of laws based on “protecting children” e.g., banning books, drag shows, and access to social media. Yet, it’s considered “moral panic” to shame people for engaging w/ a person who is known to have sexually assaulted and trafficked children.

They see school patrols walking to keep their friends from being kidnapped. They see teachers linking arms to guard the doors. They see a federal government who is basically telling them to drop dead. The kids of Minneapolis and St Paul are traumatized.
The kids are suffering. There's no way to shield them from what's happening here. Everyone is affected. They hear about families in hiding. They read "ICE kidnapped someone here" and "Fuck ICE" when we're in the car. They see us shopping for others. They hear the whistles. They are afraid.

The ICE killings in Minneapolis evoke Selma but the day-to-day tactics in Minneapolis remind me of the Birmingham Bus Boycott: a grinding, continuous, citywide and logistically demanding effort of non-cooperation over months to break an unjust status quo.
A manager for the Immigrant Defense Network told MPR News that back in November, 2,500 people were trained as constitutional observers. Now, the total is nearly 30,000 trained observers in 77 of Minnesota's 87 counties.

This is incredibly moving. Good on this citizen for writing this and making it so clear. Worth the time:
Highlighting the speaker who stood in front of the Surprise mayor and told him to consider what the Mayor of Ohrdruf must’ve thought before he died by suicide: “He might have thought ‘how is this my fault I had no jurisdiction over this’ maybe he said ‘this site was not subject to local zoning.’”

Gift link. My kid reports that only 10 or 15% of her school is showing up anymore. We are under siege. I talked to someone in restaurants last night who said she heard from a hotel worker that ICE hotel reservations are extended through May. They are strangling us.

At least the Nazis went to the trouble of passing the Nuremberg Laws and making the brutality and totalitarianism street legal. The gutlessness of the American run at fascism is that they want to do it simply by pretending the Bill of Rights never existed or meant anything.
Rep. Mark Harris: "Some of these things are nonstarters. Having judicial warrants? To me, hat's a nonstarter. Being able to make off their mask, putting them at risk? That's a nonstarter. I would say anything that's going to hamstring the work of ICE, that's just not going to go anywhere."

Don't agree with Cato Inst on much. But:

Very glad they have quantified what has been obvious for years.
The US immigrant population generated more in taxes than they received in benefits from all levels of government every year from 1994 to 2023.

The Cato study provides the first-ever 30-year analysis of the fiscal effects of immigration on government budgets.

ICE detained multiple kids (all under the age of 10!) in the last week alone. Still kidnapping people based solely on the way they look. Still arresting parents at school pick up.

Nothing has changed in Minnesota. Nice words from the Admin won’t change that. ICE leaving will.

This may be a wrongheaded opinion, but I’m beginning to suspect they’ll never send ICE large scale into any swing state, it makes everyone hate the GOP so much. I bet they just go to blue cities in blue states. California, Oregon, NY, maybe Boston. Watch your hotel registrations.
