watching the CECOT 60 Minutes segment that CBS suppressed, it’s striking that Weiss specifically called out as unnecessary some of the most rigorous investigative work in the segment, including an explanation of how it was done (by human rights researchers)

not even a pro, just a nosy and curious writer, but one of the wildest set of papers I got to work with for my new book were rescued from the back of metal file cabinet that CPUSA had banked on people forgetting about, xeroxed by one feminist historian, then later photographed after much conflict

I read "heritage American" as a way to give White people claim to a title in a sort of monarchy of meritocracy.
And I see the ambiguity as strategic--so lots of White people can claim, "my ancestors did something important™ for my country, so i deserve money/status/power more than others here."
