Why Sexual Content Matters in Young Adult Literature

This is such an important article from @penamerica.bsky.social. It includes a terrific interview with editor @andrewkarre.bsky.social.

Absolute banger of a speech from Zadie Smith that applies at least as much to America (where we treat our libraries and librarians with even more contempt).

"Negotiating" your own health insurance. 15-year car loans. 50-year mortgages.

Every affordability "plan" from Republicans is indistinguishable from the fever-dreams of bankruptcy law firms and the pay-day loan industry. We're about three news cycles from "who really needs two kidneys?"

I refuse to support a funding bill that fails to address the Republican health care crisis.

And make health insurance affordable.

The American people clearly understand the stakes and the urgency. We must too.

I'm voting no.

The average ACA benefit per month is up to $550 a person.

People want us to hold the line for a reason. This is not a matter of appealing to a base. It’s about people’s lives.

And working people want leaders whose word means something to them.

We are willing to feel that pain so people can have health care next year, or to undo these illegal recissions.

We are not willing to have been put through this for NOTHING.

I will not support a deal that does nothing to make health care more affordable.

We are in a health care emergency. A simple one-year extension of these tax credits would cost less than Donald Trump’s $40 billion bailout for Argentina.

A vote for this bill is a mistake.

Sweet Jesus, we’re fucked.

This is flatly false! Trans people with a passport that does not match with their plain appearance when presented to a border agent is subject to additional hassle compared to a cis person presenting a passport.
NEW: On the shadow docket, the Supreme Court lets Trump resume misgendering trans Americans on their passports, claiming "the government is merely attesting to a historical fact without subjecting anyone to differential treatment." All three liberals dissent. www.documentcloud.org/documents/26...

Ohio, until recent memory, had some of the most consistently funded libraries in the country.

Republicans seem determined to destroy them at all costs.
WTF IS THIS? Blocking the will of the people? The Ohio House will soon vote on a Republican-backed bill that would allow counties, cities and other local governments to block library levies from the ballot.

Any future America worth a damn will insist ICE be taught extensively in schools. Old people will tell kids how close we came to a societal precipice when we tolerated masked secret police invading schools to detain teachers. We'll remember what we saw—or else. 19thnews.org/2025/11/chil...

Think of this story when you read that Dems are somehow out of touch and too focused on gender and LGBTQIA+ issues and thus they lose elections. In truth, the GOP is so obsessed with these issues that they're harming straight, cis men in their zeal to torment queer folks.
