In response to announcement that he will be a new CBS contributor, Andrew Huberman tweeted “I’ve always gone issue-by-issue on health & science, spoken to experts w/a range of takes & presented where I see the center of (data) mass pointed. I’ll do the same with @CBSNews”. In Sept he posted this:

the throat clearing in this, aside from being exhausting and stupid, is totally pointless given the intended audience
NY Post editorial board: "The alacritous and misleading rhetoric coming out of the administration needs to stop ... DHS Secretary Kristi Noem should also take a break from her self-promoting and combative TV hits."

What Trump’s next move needs to be in Minneapolis
It’s time to de-escalate in Minneapolis, Mr. President.

My buddy's 15 year DnD group is imploding because a couple of the long time players are defending the ICE murders and everyone else is appalled. This is a red line for normal people in a "get the fuck out and never talk to me again" way. The evil and injustice is instantly recognizable.

Chip Roy: "As someone who carries a weapon in TX, if I'm in front of law enforcement or if I get stopped, I tell them that. I tell them that I've got a concealed carry permit. I show them my ID. I tell them where the weapon is bc that's what we're supposed to do. That's not what I think I saw here"

Also, may I say that I don’t agree with people saying ICE and CBP need “more training.” They’re doing exactly what this administration has trained them to—impose a reign of fear in blue cities. They don’t need more training. They need to be ripped up root and branch.

“If Mr. Trump prevails”

Very responsible for the Paper of Record in its “analysis” to fast forward past all the ruinous outcomes of trying this and going straight to Trump’s preferred framing of “real estate king makes deal of the century”

There is a strain of thinking among *some* people (epitomized by the image, below, that’s going around) that doesn’t deserve to be called liberal, progressive, socialist, whatever.

I’m going to call it infantilism: the belief that an action is bad if someone, somewhere, somehow might be hurt.

Every time somebody posts something like this, someone else is like “it would just take surgical injection of a few agents at a couple of key sites to suppress huge amounts of the vote” and there’s way shorter ways to tell us your pants are constantly soaked in piss.
let's say the president wants to suppress the vote in detroit. assuming a conventional 20 soldiers for every 1000 civilians ration, he would need more than 12,000 ICE agents — more than double the current number of field officers — to occupy detroit and only detroit, a city of 630,000 people
imho people are focusing on the words "cancel the midterms" and saying uh actually a president cannot do that at the expense of what they would actually try to do, ie send troops/ice into liberal cities to suppress the vote

Logged into Facebook to see what the reaction was to recent events. Found the usual stream of disorganized slop.

Unsurprisingly, the people I’m connected to who were scolding unspecified gloating over the Kirk assassination had nothing to say today.

John Mearsheimer, Oct. 3 2024: "I think that Biden's basic instincts are those of a warmonger, and I think that's not true of Trump. I think Trump is not that interested in fighting wars."

rather noticeably Democrats were in office for four years and *did not do this*. all this does is play into Trumpist rhetoric that he does the strong things the Democrats are too cowardly to do, etc.

Watching an Instagram reel of a normally politically neutral local reporter gush about how “special” Venezuelan oil is and how good this is for the Venezuelan people. Not a great sign!

It also seems to have no clear objective. Spreading misery? Nudging someone else to do something they’re too scared to do themselves?
Doomerism in January was cowardly preemptive surrender, but done at a time when the future was unknown.

Doomerism in December is still cowardly preemptive surrender, but now also requires ignoring all the non-doomer things that have happened over the year.
I’m not gonna dunk on some small depressed account, but one reply I get to this is “you think there’s gonna be elections/Trump will listen to judges??” And I wonder how people haven’t noticed that Garcia is home and free and Republicans got crushed in elections this year
