Come on now, you can't expect people to learn the full story before getting mad about it. This is the internet, they've got assumptions to make, priors to confirm, and virtue to display.

I've seen Stancil allude to this before, but he, and seemingly many others, believe that the fascists on the Supreme Court, who routinely rule in favor of Trump, would have, in fact, ruled against him if Garland had moved faster, because they listen to public sentiment/popularity.

Wat.

the reaction to the death of Scott Adams should contrast particularly with the (eventual) death of Bill Watterson, who will be mourned in the style of the ancient Pharaohs, with all of Ohio entombed alive along with him

If it actually matters whether he is in jail or free, the person you should be talking about is John Roberts, not Merrick Garland.

Because, let's be honest, Garland's "dawdling" had no effect on the Supreme Court.
It actually matters whether the man who tried to overthrow the government is in jail or is free. It actually matters whether his paramilitaries are funded or not. It actually matters whether are consequences for treason and sedition or not.

Musk and Trump’s decimation of USAID led to more than 1 MILLION deaths in 2025.

I’ll say it again.

1 MILLION UNNECESSARY, PREVENTABLE DEATHS.

This disgusting choice will be a stain on their legacies forever.

The TACO cycle:

Markets want to price in TACO. But TACO only works if Trump sees stocks tank.

So we get a loop: Trump does things → nothing happens (markets already priced in TACO) → that emboldens him to do more → until markets start to think he might not TACO → stocks fall → TACO is restored.

No we don't. If you ‘need a dictator’ to get things done… what you actually need is therapy and a copy of the Constitution.

For myself, a disconcerting thing about social media is the # of times someone ascribes a thing to a people or group I’m nominally a part of & I’m left thinking ‘huh? That is absolutely NOT me.’

I’m left wondering if i’m lying to myself or just REALLY, REALLY WEIRD in a very conventional way.
so, one lesson of the transatlantic left/lib intramural brawl currently in progress on Bluesky might be that nationalism self-feeds:

once anyone starts doing it even people not previously so inclined, even people who oppose the starter in their own country, pick up the fight

This is not a serious operation to enforce immigration law. It’s a performative show of force and it’s gotten way out of hand.

If someone said Senator Smith “seems less interested in demonizing ICE publicly, and more interested in how it will play out electorally,” would you hear that as a good thing or a bad thing?

Is ‘demonizing’ ICE > ‘electoral’ victory over ICE?

Am i reading it wrong?
