Statement from DNC Chair Ken Martin reading: "Five years ago, Donald Trump incited a violent mob to attack the United States Capitol and prevent the peaceful transfer of power. Despite his attempts to overturn the democratic will of the American people, Trump’s insurrection failed because of the remarkable heroism and bravery of Capitol Police, law enforcement officials, and public servants—including Republicans—who certified the results of a free and fair election. Today, we honor the more than 140 officers who were injured stopping the attack on January 6, along with those who died in its aftermath. For half a decade, Trump and his Republican enablers have continued to whitewash, minimize, or even rewrite the events of that day." The statement continues, reading: "As one of the very first acts of his second term, Trump issued nearly 1,600 pardons and commutations for individuals charged in connection with the insurrection—including hundreds of convicted felons, many of whom brutally assaulted law enforcement. To this day, Trump continues to engage in a calculated effort to undermine our American democracy. At his command, Republicans have sought to restrict Americans’ voting rights and redraw electoral maps for partisan advantage. But the reality is, from the White House to our state houses, Republicans everywhere know that their craven attempt to steal power from the voters will fail—just as it did on January 6, 2021. In the 250th year of American democracy and five years since the attack on the U.S. Capitol, the Democratic Party will continue to stand up for truth and justice as we defend against these cowardly, power-driven attacks on our country and our elections."

Statement from DNC Chair Ken Martin on Gov. Tim Walz's decision to not seek a third term. The first two paragraphs read, “I’ve known Tim Walz for a long time, and one thing has always been true about him: He entered public life for the right reasons and never lost sight of them. Tim has never been about titles or ambition — he’s about the people. His North Star has always been showing up and doing the work that actually makes their lives better. “Today’s decision is entirely consistent with who Tim is. Tim has always believed that leadership isn’t about preserving your own power — it’s about using it to make a difference for as many people as possible. He doesn’t measure success by elections won, but by classrooms strengthened, families supported, and communities that are better off because he fought for them. That kind of leadership is rare, and it’s exactly what our country needs more of right now."

My full statement on Trump’s unconstitutional military operations in Venezuela:
Trump promised peace, but has delivered war. For months, the Trump administration has escalated conflict in Venezuela with unconstitutional and illegal strikes, and lied to the American people. Now, Trump has committed the United States to running another country for the foreseeable future while Americans foot the bill for regime change.  Today, Trump finally said the quiet part out loud. The justification for this war isn’t about stemming the flow of drugs. This is about regime change. This is about enriching oil corporations and billionaires. Congress must immediately assert its constitutional authority over American military action—the same authority Trump’s own chief of staff said he needs. This is the worst kind of betrayal from Trump. He committed the United States to an uncertain role in South America with an indeterminate timeline. As Trump’s influence over the country and the world wanes, he is ready and willing to endanger Americans and abandon the Constitution as a last-ditch effort to hold on to power and relevancy.

NEW: Trump’s DOJ will not comply with today’s release deadline for the Epstein files.

Per Trump’s deputy AG, the full release will instead take place “over the next couple weeks.”

All files were required by law to be released today.

All 214 Democrats and four Republicans have come together to sign a discharge petition to force a vote to extend the ACA subsidies. This would keep 22 million Americans’ health care premiums from skyrocketing next year.
