It's worth reading the whole interview in full. It basically verifies that the NYT has spent the past decade-plus doubling down on top-down narratives for coverage, getting more intense over time.

Sulzberg personally picked & chose whom the news apparatus would target and whom it would kiss up to.
In this in-depth interview Billie Jean Sweeney — a former editor at The New York Times — details how the paper shifted towards openly promoting anti-trans hatred, why this was directed from the very top, how some staff pushed back and the immense damage done by the NYT legitimizing bigotry.

with every new Avatar movie there's a chorus of critics saying surely the series has lost its juice NOW and then days later the new Avatar has crossed the $1 billion threshold.

it doesn't matter if his movies are good or bad, never bet against Big Jim at the box office

finally saw The Green Book, and while there are valid critiques of that movie I did not realize how much seeing Viggo Mortensen play a huge greaseball Italian was missing from my life. Seeing him house an entire pizza after rolling it in half, like a monster, really did something for me.

Finally watched the new Nuremberg movie. It's quite bad, but Russell Crowe is excellent as Herman Goering. I've said for years he is the only actor who can properly do Goering. Damn shame they wasted him on this thing.

This is perfect. The DOJ's embarrassing snafu with disappearing redactions was the fault of Elon Musk. Musk cancelled government subscriptions to Adobe programs that would have made the redactions permanent. What a pack of fools.

i am always taken by melancholy the day after Christmas, thinking about the great tragedies of history, like the fact that in his long musical career William Shatner never did a cover of Scatman John's 'I'm The Scat Man' where the refrain was, 'I'm the Shat Man'.

Fuck you people. Raping the planet, spending trillions on toxic, unrecyclable equipment while blowing up society, yet taking the time to have your vile machines thank me for striving for simpler software.

Just fuck you. Fuck you all.

I can't remember the last time I was this angry.

MIT’s NANDA initiative found that 95% of generative AI deployments fail after interviewing 150 execs, surveying 350 workers, and analyzing 300 projects. The real “productivity gains” seem to come from layoffs and squeezing more work from fewer people not AI.
MIT report: 95% of generative AI pilots at companies are failing
There’s a stark difference in success rates between companies that purchase AI tools from vendors and those that build them internally.

In fact, one of a trio of government censorship conspiracy allegations that Roth was listing and demolishing one by one. Misrepresentation so brazen as to beggar belief, getting accolades from leading publishers. This is what an actual "clown world" looks like. 🤦

one lesser awful thing about the Epstein files is that genuine crimes against a huge number of children are being morphed into fuel for the influencer industrial complex who don't care about truth or accuracy and just want grist for the content mills

Latest from me at @journalspectre.bsky.social: I trace how Richard Spencer and other white nationalists have shifted their strategy to stay relevant and rebuild after years of delay forming and antifascist resistance. They are building a new cadre, and have less opposition today.
Last piece of the year y'all! This one is a must read.

@shaneburley.bsky.social takes a deep deep dive into Richard Spencer's rebrand in order to illuminate the fringe right's movement dynamics, influence on the mainstream, and political impasses.
