for a guy who knows damn near everything about firearms and can shoot more accurately with a smoothbore musket than most people can using an AR, @inrange.tv is also one of the sweetest, most thoughtful and hospitable people I've ever met.

Also a helluva guy to do Mardi Gras with

this does explain imo why the Frasier reboot didn't work. the fun thing, and the thing that would've differentiated itself from Frasier the way that show did from Cheers, would be to lean into the fucked up pessimistic insanity of our current age and show how a dandy like Frasier Crane copes

The MAGA vigilante doing the pepper spraying here is Brian Colin Veach (Tinkerton), a man with a long domestic violence rap sheet. By my count he sprayed at least four people yesterday, none of whom were a threat.

he isn't confronting north Korea because they have nukes dummy

the overwhelming lesson of this century is: get nukes. as many as possible. It is the only way to protect your sovereignty.
[Gift article] "He has not explained why he has chosen this moment to confront Iran instead of, for example, North Korea, which ... has expanded its nuclear arsenal to 60 or more warheads ... and is working to demonstrate they can reach the United States."

okay if you could magically become the greatest figure skater in the world for a day and deliver one banger performance that would live on forever, and if you could truly let your freak flag fly to choose ANY music you wanted, what are you skating to

I might do “Black Jack Davy” by Steeleye Span

my favorite Mardi Gras memory came near the end of Fat Tuesday, at a dance party near the Slab. I turned around and saw a man holding a framed portrait of David Lynch. He rested his cheek against the glass and danced with it for like an hour

this is exactly the wrong way to think about owning and carrying a firearm. i cannot overemphasize how irresponsible Councilor Smith's logic is here. Openly carrying a weapon you know nothing about is just BEGGING to have that weapon taken off your body and used against you.
February 20, 2026 at 3:19 AM
So Portland bans the carrying of firearms in City Hall. Then a peaceful protest spooks one councilor and now they're advocating to allow JUST councilors to open carry, even though the main advocate for this rule admits they don't know how to use a gun and just want it on their body as a totem.

Immigrants can teach us how to fight dictators:

"Myrla Baldonado became one of the “forced disappearances” under Philippine dictator Ferdinand Marcos Sr., in 1983. She was kidnapped by state agents, swept away to a secret location, tortured, and then imprisoned for two years."

And yet:

Kevin Roberts, President of The Heritage Foundation, claims that evidence suggests a correlation between undergoing Trans Medical Care and acts of violence.

He states Heritage's public policy solution is to ban it for all ages and they're willing to work towards this goal on an incremental basis.

it's stupid because it inherently means accepting the silicon valley line on AI.

"the left" is like ten people. AI skeptics are most of the country. because we're well aware there are certain specific things the tech can do but ZERO evidence it's a multi trillion dollar industry
The reason that “the left is losing on AI” discourse makes me so incredibly upset is that the right has no positive vision for the future in which the mass unemployment predicted by boosters occurs

Nah man, prediction markets are not going to “save” journalism, they’re absolutely ushering in its demise.
Oh no. I just had the thought that this might actually might be the business model that saves journalism. If we’re betting on everything, it creates an incentive for more, and more accurate information… maybe even more local journalism. Eeek.
