It’s good for people to get aid, yes. But I feel like what you’d want is a more robust infrastructure at the party level that campaigns could tap into but not have to manage, because people who know how to do that part, do that part.

The level of condescension that comes with this in the circles I generally run in is quite frustrating. It turns from “X is popular despite being bad” to “X is bad because it is popular” and the people saying it don’t even realize they’re drawing a broader circle.

i love how fast anti-AI discourse is IMMEDIATELY becoming "if disabled people would suffer because of things done to stop AI usage then, well, haha, disabled people should definitely just suffer then :) sacrifices have to be made :)"

didn't predict this back in '22, nope

the reason you get a bunch of these “people thinking about leaving” pieces but then nobody much leaves isn’t sinister imo.

it’s that it’s very very easy to think about moving, but actually moving is an enormous pain in the ass
Billionaires are considering cutting or reducing their ties to California by the end of the year because of a proposed ballot measure that could tax the state’s wealthiest residents.

It’s uncertain whether the proposal will reach the statewide ballot in November, but some billionaires like Peter Thiel and Larry Page may be unwilling to take the risk.

I would also be pretty worried about running afoul of campaign finance rules especially if the trend catches on.
Turning campaigns into mutual aid hubs isn’t good for campaigns or mutual aid! Your campaign manager should be entirely too busy to schlep around 5600 tampons!

I’m not an expert in any of this stuff but also campaigns feel like kind of the wrong vehicle for it. People talk all the time about how campaigns wind up parachuting in, doing their thing for a bit, and then disappearing. That’s no kind of way to distribute aid.

This would be an incredible comedy premise though. A friend group realizes that one of them has been using the others for market research for a decade and they were all carefully selected/guided to be representative norms.
Imagining how tedious someone would be who meticulously grooms their friends to be a representative sample

the thing about people who say we should do x thing instead of y thing is that they never do x thing. sometimes they stop y thing but x thing never happens.
