Person: says a thing.
Other Person: WHY DO YOU WANT THAT?!
Person: I was just describing a fact on planet Earth.
Other Person: WHY DO YOU WANT THAT TO BE TRUE?!
Person: I… don’t? But it objectively is.
Other Person: I DON’T LIKE THAT!!
Person: Me neither.

And so on for 100,000 skeets.

Billionaires are considering cutting or reducing their ties to California by the end of the year because of a proposed ballot measure that could tax the state’s wealthiest residents.
A Wealth Tax Floated in California Has Billionaires Thinking of Leaving
It’s uncertain whether the proposal will reach the statewide ballot in November, but some billionaires like Peter Thiel and Larry Page may be unwilling to take the risk.

A case where the quote is even worse in context than out of context. JD is scaremongering about “Islamists” winning elections in the UK/France and then somehow militarily threatening the US. Saying we should hold Europeans and Africans to different moral standards but anti-wokely.

I've seen all three Avatar movies in theaters, generally love them, think that maybe we should be grateful that the fandom machine isn't insane about them.

I actually hate this tendency. The obsession with canonicity and lore destroys any role for the audiences' imagination in engaging with media.
Yeah, and I have to say I don't mind that there aren't a million spin-off shows trying to canonically fill in every piece of "missing" lore like I'm not capable of imagining things for myself.

Yeah this is a key thing: we literally do not see the night sky with the same intensity and regularity that premodern people did!
If you ever have the experience of seeing a night sky out in the deep countryside you can understand this; it really is a fundamentally different experience, and I can't imagine it not being formative to people.

she is working with these charities BUT just it's a waste of her time and likely the charities as well. Honestly 5,600 tampons is kinda nothing and it's better served that these charities just get money so THEY decide what to buy.

It’s good for people to get aid, yes. But I feel like what you’d want is a more robust infrastructure at the party level that campaigns could tap into but not have to manage, because people who know how to do that part, do that part.

The level of condescension that comes with this in the circles I generally run in is quite frustrating. It turns from “X is popular despite being bad” to “X is bad because it is popular” and the people saying it don’t even realize they’re drawing a broader circle.
