This has been the most surprising thing to me and totally rewritten my perception of how authoritarianism happens — it’s all elite projects and failures; your average person on the street hates this shit, and a surprising number are happy to say so to the masked face of a heavily armed fed
I guess the other thing I'll say is that by january 2025 I was like "america is over. america is full of placid cucks who will let their country go to fascists without a fight" because the bulk of the country and the media didn't care about doge taking over payments infrastructure, and i was wrong

This reminds me of DC comics in the 90s; rigorous and increasingly bizarre attempts to “right” the continuity, so every five years the entire universe is in there because some writer somewhere wanted to use the super dog but technically he didn’t exist anymore

Here's another bit of conventional wisdom Zohran completely blew away: His speech was at well above a 10th-grade level. It was complex, erudite, punctuated by deep and fluent references. You don't have to condescend to voters with baby talk! Part of re-establishing norms is speaking like an adult.

There’s a whole generation of these guys who grew up hearing Nixon era slurs against McGovern and kept repeating them for 30+ years thru Clinton, Obama, and Biden and haven’t ever questioned what constitutes the left or what Dems actually say and do.

Every time I watch a movie like “One Battle After Another” or “Sorry to Bother You” and for one second think the white supremicist cabal is too over the top I just remind myself the only exaggeration in film is how competent and effective these racist rich fuckheads actually are
