New York City baby, the crown jewel in the American empire! The worldwide epicenter of finance, art, and pop culture! We put our trash directly on the street for the rats! We love the rats and worship them as gods!

This has been the most surprising thing to me and totally rewritten my perception of how authoritarianism happens — it’s all elite projects and failures; your average person on the street hates this shit, and a surprising number are happy to say so to the masked face of a heavily armed fed
I guess the other thing I'll say is that by january 2025 I was like "america is over. america is full of placid cucks who will let their country go to fascists without a fight" because the bulk of the country and the media didn't care about doge taking over payments infrastructure, and i was wrong
November 11, 2025 at 1:34 PM
This reminds me of DC comics in the 90s; rigorous and increasingly bizarre attempts to “right” the continuity, so every five years the entire universe is in there because some writer somewhere wanted to use the super dog but technically he didn’t exist anymore

In these screen caps, at least, there’s more denunciations of antisemitism than examples of Zohran’s antizionism which is (a) not synonymous with antisemitism and (b) the NYDN board declares it to be his “obsession” but don’t cite examples?

When is the fucking fever gonna break with these people??
i try not to be hyperbolic but this NY daily news editorial board piece saying mayor-elect mamdani better support israel OR ELSE is one of the most appalling things i’ve ever read

For people who weren’t on the ground, I don’t think any article about the campaign can capture how broadly inspiring it was

I canvassed at least 2x a month since march; one of my earliest canvass shift partners was a freshly graduated rabbi. Most recently I did a shift with a Muslim cop from Jersey
The left told em for several years "you will lose if your campaign completely fucking ignores the rising virulent transphobia and islamophobia and continues to defend a genocide"

And look, a campaign that did the exact opposite of that, won by a goddamn landslide and inspired people country-wide

Here's another bit of conventional wisdom Zohran completely blew away: His speech was at well above a 10th-grade level. It was complex, erudite, punctuated by deep and fluent references. You don't have to condescend to voters with baby talk! Part of re-establishing norms is speaking like an adult.

The last month of the anti-Mamdani campaign was an absolutely shameful undertaking, an attempt to rip the city and Democratic coalition apart and I'm very happy to see it failed.

Individual electorates shouldn’t be trusted to pick candidates who aren’t moderate enough for the most moderate electorate because of ads.

Mamdani doesn't need Obama to win the election. the party and the country need people to embrace Mamdani for a whole range of reasons though, imo.

If you can’t win an election against this stupid motherfucker you need to quit show business and go back to the fucking farm
Q: Americans have been watching videos of ICE tackling a young mother, tear gas being used in a Chicago residential neighborhood, and the smashing of car windows. Have some of these raids gone too far?"

Trump: "No. I think they haven't gone far enough”

“Vote blue no matter who…

…not you, tho’”
Hakeem Jeffries says Zohran Mamdani is not the future of the Democratic Party.

There’s a whole generation of these guys who grew up hearing Nixon era slurs against McGovern and kept repeating them for 30+ years thru Clinton, Obama, and Biden and haven’t ever questioned what constitutes the left or what Dems actually say and do.

It’d be comical if it weren’t so effective
I guess here on Bluesky it's controversial to note that the Democrats, once the majority across this country, were reduced to national minority (in stages, from 1968, to 1980, to 2016) by moving left.
But if you'd rather think I'm just making Trump's point...well, whatever helps you cope.
I'm questioning this statement, "the left started to lose the public (who to this day don't see Reagan the same way they do.)"
Who is this *public* you speak of? Wouldn't the left be a subset of it?
This feels like the current Trump regime's feelings that Democrats aren't real Americans.

NYC board of elections is almost entirely awful (try volunteering to be a poll worker) but they do one thing really great (deleted and reposted to add alt text to image).

Every time I watch a movie like “One Battle After Another” or “Sorry to Bother You” and for one second think the white supremicist cabal is too over the top I just remind myself the only exaggeration in film is how competent and effective these racist rich fuckheads actually are
Quote from Timothy Mellon, who donated $130 million to the U.S. military, so you know who we’re dealing with:

“Black people, in spite of heroic efforts by the "Establishment" to right the wrongs of the past, became even more belligerent and unwilling to pitch in to improve their own situations”.

I have never liked a politician so much that I would get on the internet to negotiate how much Nazi tattoo is a acceptable amount of Nazi tattoo.

It's none! None Nazi tattoo!

More people than ever are getting the fact that, yes, most punditry, elected democrats, and all of the congressional leadership are far more comfortable with nazis than they are leftists

If whatever broad popular front were working on here can start informing tactics and strategy from that now…
October 22, 2025 at 9:41 AM
The first and highest responsibility of modern punditry is a heroically smoothed brain ignorance of history and facts that is closely followed by a vicious and immovable hostility to anything to the left of Clinton’s second term
Guys its not a skull and crossbones or Jolly Roger, it is something different. It is obviously different.

And that something different is the symbol of the fucking SS Nazi unit that ran the goddamn death camps, which is distinctly and stylistically different from the traditional Jolly Roger.

Been out of the country on vacation for over a week and seems like the state of play is democratic leadership *still* hasn’t endorsed the wildly popular mayoral candidate in NYC but media mouthpieces are defending candidates with SS tattoos?

Excellent, excellent. Like I never left

Spotted a “Philly cheesesteak” in Vienna and really struggling to think if it’s better or worse than when I see them advertised in San Francisco.

Partner sez “well, they do beef and they do cheese well”

And, in fairness, San Francisco does nothing well
