seems to me that those democrats inclined not to fight perceive themselves as living through a somewhat ordinary cycle of presidential overreach and backlash and not something much more significant and dangerous

How can anyone with a shred of integrity or self-respect actually say those words — that standing up to an authoritarian goon “ didn’t work”?

I mean, unless you’re just an abject coward, what other choice is there?

A few years ago there was a terrible Gen Z tweet everyone dunked on about how people should get their car insurance payments back if they don’t use it. Anyway it’s fun to discover this is now the stated position of the GOP

We're officially live. It's incredibly important to have a real record of how our public servants are behaving and this database will be a powerful tool for researchers, reporters, and ordinary Americans.
1/6 A new standard for public accountability is here. GLOW—Government Lawyers Oversight Watchdog—is officially launching today to hold government lawyers accountable. We're unveiling The Government Lawyers Database at glowlaw.org. #RuleOfLaw #Accountability

Felony murder statutes are good in basic concept (if you choose to participate in a crime that reasonably creates a risk that someone is going to die, you're as guilty of murder as the person who pulled the trigger) but insane in many applications
Ooh, @lastweektonight.com did a whole thing on Felony Murder last night.

Didn't mention my book chapter on the matter. :( But still, I happy to remind you that these laws are shitty and need to be repealed.

Zionism and Judaism are not one and the same, but that doesn’t mean the Protocols of the Elders of Zion isn’t antisemitic since it uses the word “Zion” in the name.

Just doing a Jew -> Zionist find-and-replace is not a get-out-of-jail-free card for Judenhaß
Then we'll blame the zionists.

Zionism and Judaism are not one and the same.

BREAKING: The Supreme Court DENIES former county clerk Kim Davis's request for the justices to take up her longshot bid to overturn 2015's Obergefell v. Hodges marriage equality decision. No justice even writes about the request.

I didn't watch this game but the funny thing is that on this replay, this specific play looks more like a QB mistake than like a bad job by the receivers or bad play design
At some point during the second half the Texans bet that if they played man coverage the Jaguars merry band of Parker Washington, Jakobi Meyers and local LA Fitness workers wouldn't get open. They were correct

"Shutdown hoax"
November 10, 2025 at 4:05 PM
The definition of a deeply good person
As someone personally impacted, my family was willing to endure a long term shutdown despite the financial pain because the cause was that important. I am so devastated. The last 40 days of pain was for literally nothing, and the pain for others is going to get exponentially worse.

I wish everyone would headline this BS with “the mentally unwell president, who is oblivious to his position’s limits, believes he has ‘pardoned’ criminals guilty of state crimes. He has not and his actions do not, in fact, pardon the criminals.”

I get why the people most directly personally impacted by the government shutdown are saying things like this but "the entire underpinnings of the country" have *already* collapsed and pretending they haven't isn't helpful
👇There it is, the alternative was to keep federal employees unpaid for 13 MONTHS. How the fuck do you think that would play out? A collapse of the entire underpinnings of the country, that's how.
Victory looks like a bill that extends the ACA subsidies OR (and this is a key or) keeps the government shut down until the midterms.

Yes. That's a victory too.

Yes. Yes they fucking will.

They forgot January 6. They forgot "Covid will disappear" and "if there wasn't any testing there would be no cases." The "American people" have the memory of a goldfish.
From his gilded golf club, President Trump kept food off the tables of millions of children and families. The American people will not forget.
