kind of funny that an olympian said they are here to represent "compassion, respect, and love for others" and some people automatically knew that was a statement against them

Welcome to the rest of your life, asshole.
Vice President JD Vance gets roundly booed at the opening ceremony of the Milano-Cortina 2026 Olympics. "Those are a lot of boos for him, whistling jeering," says the presenter. US athletes receive a warm welcome from fans, though.

No joke: I got angry hate mail today for writing an obituary of a Black woman scientist—because the person felt she did didn’t deserve the recognition.

Which just makes me want to share it again: www.nature.com/articles/d41...

She made key contributions to US cold-war science despite facing huge barriers as a Black woman.

Impossible to respect people that allow themselves to be openly robbed on this level. From Congress to the courts to ordinary voters, Americans have become slow, stupid and pathetic -- a citizenry incapable of operating our once-promising experiment with self-governance.

We are, all of us, marks.
Donald Trump Jr, who has exactly zero experience or competence in manufacturing or defense, has received more than $600,000,000 in contracts from Pete Hegseth's "Department of War."

What’s wild is that — as foreseen by literally every sentient being in the country, excluding the SCOTUS majority — the opinion ITSELF is the thing that caused Trump to feel “empowered” to violate federal law. It is, itself, the permission slip.
Every time I re-read Trump v. United States, it feels like getting hit in the head with a mallet.

And that sorry-ass Tim Scott, desperate to remain in the White Man’s Club, thanks Trump and expresses relief that, you know, it wasn’t actually racist.
Trump posts racist video about the Obamas.

Karoline Leavitt dismisses criticism as "fake outrage."

Tim Scott calls it "the most racist thing I've seen out of this White House."

White House deletes video.

The dumbest among us have used their numbers to place the worst possible people in positions of power at the worst possible time. These horrible people have used this power to do stupid and terrible things. The world sees this. America is not immune from the consequence of its own stupidity.

Brutal, but fair.

Chuck Schumer is the Uvalde cops, just hoping the shooters will go home and he can go back to eating donuts.
Someone said Republicans are school shooters and Democrats are the Uvalde cops and man…
Democrats want commonsense reform for ICE:

End the roving patrols and racial profiling.

Take accountability and abide by the same rules as local police.

Masks need to come off, body cameras need to stay on—no secret police in the United States of America.

The way things are going in America, it should be clear we don't have much time. We certainly don't have three years. We need to help ourselves by pushing for impeachment and removal as hard as we can and carrying it out as soon as humanly possible.

I mean, this piece of shit has been telegraphing what he plans to do for a while now.

He will not voluntarily accept any diminution in his power. It’s going to have to be imposed upon him, by any means the situation requires.
“Nationalize the voting” is a direct threat to the Elections Clause of the U.S. Constitution, which grants the states the power to oversee our elections. This is fundamental, Constitution 101 type stuff.

Trump: "These people were brought to our country to vote, & they vote illegally. The Republicans should say, we should take over the voting in at least 15 places. The Republicans ought to nationalize the voting. We have states that I won that show I didn't win. You're gonna see something in Georgia"

The only people pretending are the execrable cowards who have the power to end him, but who refuse.
Or, you know, like Trump & Elon Musk tearing down large swathes of the federal government, a set of entitled literally & legally designated & funded by Congress for a wide range of purposes.

Again, there is one & only one constitutional solution to this problem, & everyone is just pretending now.
A reminder that the Kennedy Center is the literal and legal and congressional designated presidential memorial to JFK. This would be like Trump tearing down the Lincoln Memorial to build something “better.”

Good. He, and we, deserve it.
In Copenhagen, over 10,000 Danes led by veterans assemble to protest against the disrespect of fallen Danes by Trump and his hand-picked ambassador. They stared at the embassy in silence. “We are not losing anything. It is the Americans who are losing something. They are losing us.”

Well, this is just excellent.

Why would the world expect an America run by ignorant, anti-science, authoritarian goons, guided by a economically illiterate, cognitively crippled felon and sex pest, to face the “deterioration of [its] financial exceptionalism”?
Traders are abuzz with talk of the “debasement trade”, a broad term for bets on the deterioration of American financial exceptionalism. If they are right, then the sell-off in the greenback has barely begun econ.st/4kcbL48

We have grown so, so numb to all of this, which is, of course, the point of the exercise.
Party game for the weekend:

Try to come up with a historical presidential scandal that Trump didn't top (either with new actions or breaking news about old/continuing actions) *this week*.

Watergate? Iran/Contra? Any sex scandal? Self-dealing? Accepting bribes? Got all those. *This week*.

I run a business, and made some standard federal tax payments this morning.

I’ve obviously been paying taxes forever, and have never enjoyed it, but I have never before experienced this level of resentment. I feel like I’m being extorted by a pack of corrupt, violent goons. I suspect I’m not alone.
